Everybody, stay calm. Stay f—-ing CALM! An Office reboot might happen.

An Office is a Place Where Dreams Come True

Reboots of popular shows like Fuller House and Battlestar Galactica are springing up on every network these days. Could an Office reboot be next? For NBCU’s Bonnie Hammer it is her “hope” and “goal” for The Office to make a comeback.

NBCU content chief Susan Rovner told Deadline that she has put The Office reboot’s future in the hands of executive producer Greg Daniels.

“Whenever Greg Daniels wants to do one, we’re standing by,” Rovner said.

Daniels is a screenwriter, director, and television producer that developed the American adaption of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s The Office. While The Office reboot isn’t in active development, Daniels said that “it’s not impossible” for a reboot to happen in the future. Currently, Daniels is busy working on his other shows, The Upload, and Space Force. But, Daniels has made it clear that if an Office reboot happens, he will be involved.

The series ran between 2005 and 2013 with stars such as Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Angela Kinsey, Jenna Fischer, and John Krasinski.

In the beginning, there was a lot of doubt surrounding the show’s success. Even Krasinski, who went on to play loveable goofball Jim Halpert, had his doubts on if the British comedy could survive in the U.S. Over time, the series became a hit. After Carell’s departure in season seven, the show ran on fumes until it ended two seasons later.

However, internet memes and streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu gave the series a second life. The Office was the most streamed show on Netflix in 2018.

With NBCUniversal’s new streaming site, Peacock, the company made a $500M deal to get the rights back from Netflix. NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell confirmed that The Office is streaming more actively now that it’s on Peacock than when it was on Netflix.

What do you think? Would an Office reboot be able to survive in today’s social climate? Let us know!
