The upcoming physical edition of Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics comes a few weeks after its digital release, which is why many decided to wait and get the version that no one can ever take away from them. But it turns out, that physical release isn’t exactly physical if you’re living in Europe, because all you will get is a digital code in a box, according to Capcom.
Luckily, this is only limited to the Nintendo Switch edition of the game, and won’t be a problem if you’re buying on PlayStation 4 or 5, because you will get a disc as one would expect from a physical release. If you were waiting for it, the physical edition of Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will be available on November 22, 2024.
This announcement, of course, led to some disappointment from fans who were looking forward to a cartridge to add to their Switch collection. The bad news doesn’t stop with Europe, as the Middle East and Africa regions will also be subject to the code-in-a-box approach. The good news is that this is not the case for North America and Japan, where everything seems to be going smoothly.
The problem with the lack of a physical release is that Nintendo has shut down the eShop for the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U, which means that the Switch will also get the same treatment sometime in the future. This is far from ideal when it comes to console and game preservation, which isn’t normally a priority for console makers like Nintendo.
If you’re in one of the regions that will only get a code in a box, then you might want to consider importing it. Since the Switch isn’t region-locked, the game should work normally, but will definitely cost more than buying the local copy.
The Xbox version of Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will come out sometime in early 2025, but the game is available right now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 (through backward compatibility), Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
