Prince Harry finds himself in a painful place, regretting calling out sister-in-law Kate Middleton since her cancer diagnosis. Following their step back from their duties as senior royals in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship with the royal family has been strained. The couple’s tendency to divulge information aimed at condemning the royals further fueled the bad blood. In his book, Spare, Prince Harry recalled an instance where Kate seemingly made Meghan cry. He also claimed the Princess of Wales encouraged him to wear his infamous Nazi Halloween costume among other vilifying statements.
Prince Harry “Regrets” Damning Statements About Kate Middleton in Spare
Royal expert Dr Tessa Dunlop recently weighed in on Price Harry’s revelations and the repercussions in the wake of Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. According to the royal expert and author, the revelation of the Princess’ health woes “reframes everything” for Harry, as “the Big C” was untouchable. She divulged in US Magazine,
“When you do discover that your sister-in-law has cancer and you’ve written stuff that can’t be retracted, that’s quite a painful place to be in. I’m not saying it isn’t.”
As a consequence of their deliberate criticism of the monarchy in years past, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would have to tread cautiously in matters concerning Kate Middleton’s health or the royal family.
The author, who penned Elizabeth & Philip: A Story of Young Love, Marriage, and Monarchy, explained that the Sussexes have spent years criticizing the monarchy, even daring to offer themselves as an alternative to the monarchy. Hence, it is only natural that now the monarchy faced a troubled phase, the world would tend to draw up some form of comparison, based on the narrative they’ve created. The royal expert quipped,
“When the monarch is in trouble, we do kind of make a comparison. Can Harry and Meghan really hold themselves off as the caring example now? They’re certainly going to have to be careful of their timing with any releases so that it doesn’t look opportunistic.”
The Sussexes Likely Gunning For a Reconciliation
So far, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have indeed treaded cautiously. The duo, who found out about the cancer diagnosis via the public announcement like everyone else have since shown support. Prince Harry and Meghan reportedly reached out to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s family after learning of the cancer diagnosis. They also released a public statement voicing their support for the Waleses, while also extending goodwill messages to Kate.
Additionally, the duo plans to visit the UK in May to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Their UK trip would likely include a visit to William and Kate. Although sources have claimed the Wales royals have no interest in seeing the Sussexes, such an obvious snub would only create more drama. Hence, Prince Harry and Prince William would reportedly do some physical catching up, and possibly have Archie and Lilibet tag along.
Of course, this arrangement has a higher chance of working if Meghan Markle would join the reunion. However, insiders claim the Duchess felt anxious about returning to the UK amid the prevailing drama, making her trip alongside Harry uncertain.
