Fuse is a new mechanic in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and it’s incredibly important. The Fuse ability allows players to attach nearly anything in the game to a weapon or shield. Tears of the Kingdom provides the Fuse ability primarily as a way to enhance weaponry into fearsome tools of destruction. However, players have taken things a step further and into the land of absurdity. Since the release of Tears of the Kingdom, some players have discovered some funny Fuse combos. These combinations might not be very useful in combat, but they will undoubtedly give you a laugh. Here are eight of the funniest Fuse combos from Tears of the Kingdom.
1. Bouncy Weapons
Bouncy weapons are probably the easiest thing on this list for players to make right at the start of the game. All you need is any melee weapon and a mushroom, and suddenly you’re operating on cartoon physics. Bouncy weapons aren’t particularly powerful weapons, but they make up for it by launching your enemies backward whenever you land a hit, which is a truly hilarious thing to watch. It’s really hard to be scared by a silver Moblin when it’s flying through the air.
2. Spring Shield
An inverse to bouncy weapons, this Fuse combo means you’ll be the one working with cartoon physics. Fuse a Zonai spring device with any shield, then jump on the shield like you’re trying to shield surf, and Link will bounce like a rubber ball. When this happens, the spring makes an incredibly funny noise, and Link gets some impressive air time. You can also use the Spring Shield in combat if, like with the bouncy weapons, you want to send your enemies flying.
3. Hudson Cutout Shield
Have you ever wanted to look exactly like Hudson from Hudson Construction, Hyrule’s fastest-growing construction company? Now you can! Simply Fuse a President Hudson Cutout, which you can find at Hudson’s house in Tarrey Town, to any shield. Now, when you walk up to anyone in Tarrey Town or the nearby construction site and press ZL to hold up your shield, they’ll think you’re actually Hudson and have some unique reactions.
4. Sand Seal Plushie Shield
If you ask us, this fusion is definitely the cutest thing on this list and probably the cutest thing in Tears of the Kingdom. To create it, travel to Gerudo Town and find Riju’s bedroom, where she has plenty of sand seal plushies lying around. Fuse one of the toys with your shield, and you have an adorable stuffed animal to bring with you on your adventures! Though we recommend keeping the shield on display, lest the adorable sand seal gets destroyed.
5. Beehive Shield
There’s a surprising amount of wacky food-related Fuse combos available in Tears of the Kingdom. Of these, the Beehive Shield is the only one that’s at least somewhat useful in combat. Fuse Courser Bee Honey to any shield — this one works with weapons too, but we recommend using shields. Now, hold up your shield against an enemy, and you’ll dispatch a swarm of bees on them, causing them to flee in terror.
6. Cheese Sword
Cheese Sword is one of those concepts that’s really self-explanatory: it’s cheese and sword. Hateno Cheese is another new addition to Tears of the Kingdom, and you can get it by completing the side quest “A Letter to Koyin” in Hateno Village. Once that’s done, you can either buy cheese or trade it for fresh milk. While you can cook with the cheese, you can also stick it on the end of a sword like it’s a giant toothpick, and there’s nothing funnier than beating your enemies with a giant appetizer.
7. Meat Shield
By standard definition, a “meat shield” is usually an unwilling individual forced into harm’s way, thereby acting as a shield. This isn’t so in Tears of the Kingdom. When we say “meat shield,” we mean that literally. Fusing any piece of meat to a shield doesn’t increase your defensive power in any way, but it’s always funny to see Link running around saving Hyrule with a raw steak strapped to his back.
8. Sword-Sword
What’s better than one sword? Two swords. The Sword-Sword is possibly the easiest Fuse combo to understand just by looking at the name. It’s a sword on top of another sword that answers the question we’ve all asked while messing around with Fuse: “What if sword, but double?” The end result of this Fuse combo is an absolutely ridiculous weapon, but the Sword-Sword does have better stats than a single standard sword, at least. If you’re the kind of player that hoards every weapon you come across, then Sword-Sword is for you.
