Wednesday’s airing of The View has unleashed another drama, and fans think one of the co-hosts did the unforgivable. During the episode, Joy Behar spilled the tea on her co-host Sara Haines’ past lesbian affair. She dropped the shocking bomb while Haines’ parents were in the audience.
It happened that while co-host Whoopi Goldberg was introducing Haines’s parents to the audience, Behar chipped in with a little question. The 82-year-old turned to her 47-year-old colleague and asked blatantly, “I have to ask her a question –– are you going to bring up that lesbian relationship you said you had or not? Back at Smith [College].” The blunt and invasive question came as a shock to Haines, who couldn’t help but laugh while the camera panned to her somber, unenthusiastic parents. An embarrassed Haines then quipped, “Dad, earmuffs!” Other co-hosts seemed taken aback by the revelation as they stayed silent. However, Alyssa Farah Griffin stepped in and called Behar out. “That was off air that she told us that,” she said, causing Sunny Hostin to add, “Now, it’s on air.”
Haines, however, didn’t seem to take offense as she laughed off the awkward situation, saying “it’s a good thing” her dad “doesn’t always watch.” Adding more humor to the moment, Goldberg quipped, “Now, he will!!” The audience’s laughter diffused the moment, and Haines proceeded to discuss her childhood without addressing the lesbian topic.
Fans Demand Joy Behar’s Job For Putting Sara Haines On The Spot
While Haines took it as a joke, fans online slammed Behar for being irresponsible with such a sensitive subject, especially with her colleague’s parents present.
”Fire her STUPID A**!! Show some integrity, ABC,” one fan lashed out.
“@JoyBehar needs to stay off sugar and carbs and learn to shut her mouth. She needs to be fired; at least fined+suspended,” another harsh comment read.
“An evil woman to her core. She knew what she was doing,” theorized this angry fan.
“If @TheView doesn’t fire @JoyVBehar, shame on you. Clearly, it’s time for her to go to the old folks home. Since her dementia has kicked in,” a fourth remark read.
Despite fans’ anger, sources tell Page Six management didn’t reprimand Behar for her on-air slip-up. “Sara freely shared the story with the studio audience last week, although it was off camera,” the insider explained of the situation. “She did not have a private conversation about it with her co-hosts.” However, a separate insider revealed the reverse was the case. “Joy was blasted by her cohosts and higher-ups for her on-air comment about Sara Haines’ lesbian romance,” the source told the Daily Mail. “She crossed the line in terms of relaying something that was told to her off-air.”
The truth of how the situation is being handled is pretty murky. However, exposing someone’s sexuality on live television is never a good look.
