The Walking Dead is at it again as the franchise’s newest spinoff, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, gets an official release date on AMC. Norman Reedus will star as the titular character of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which will be the fifth spinoff of The Walking Dead series. Other spinoffs of AMC’s biggest franchise include The Walking Dead: Dead City, Fear the Walking Dead, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. However, TWD: Daryl Dixon is set to take The Walking Dead where no spinoff has gone before — international.
First announced in the fall of 2022, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was immediately confirmed to be centering around Daryl Dixon, one of the main characters from the original show. Norman Reedus will be reprising his original role as Dixon, a veteran survivalist and hunter who originally survived the zombie outbreak. He travels with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his band of survivors. Daryl, who would become Rick’s second-in-command, played a major role in The Walking Dead, is starting in season 2 and going all the way up to the finale. In season 11, Daryl wraps the show by setting out to look for Rick Grimes, assumed dead for some time but revealed to be alive and MIA.
Everything We Know About The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
In this show, we first meet Daryl as he washes up on the shores of France with no idea how he got there. The main premise of the new spinoff seems to be two-fold, with Daryl trying to figure out how he crossed the Atlantic while journeying across France as he endeavors to return home. Aside from Norman Reedus, the new series will also star an all-new cast with Clémence Poésy, Adam Nagaitis, Anne Charrier, Eriq Ebouaney, Laika Blanc Francard, Romain Levi, and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi.
Melissa McBride, who plays Carol in The Walking Dead, was originally supposed to reprise her role in TWD: Daryl Dixon but had to drop out due to location conflicts.
In a series of new photos from the spinoff, we see Daryl teaming up with a host of new characters, some armed with bows or crossbows. We also get an image of Daryl and his new crew on a covered wagon, along with a shot of two nuns in what might be a church, based on the lit candles in the picture. It’s hard to say what any of this means since we don’t have much information on the plot of the spinoff yet, but it looks intriguing nonetheless.
Scott M. Gimple, the executive producer of several seasons of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, will return to produce TWD: Daryl Dixon. Also producing are David Zabel, Greg Nicotero, Angela Kang, Brian Bockrath, Daniel Percival, and Norman Reedus himself. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will be released to AMC and AMC+ on September 10th, 2023, at 9pm ET.
