A Florida mother posted a text message exchange between a 911 dispatcher and her 11-year-old son after he was reportedly scammed out of $7 on the online game Roblox. While it is a serious offence to text 911 without there being an emergency, the internet has agreed that the exchange is hilarious.
In fact, one of the top comments on the subject says, “as a former dispatcher I know the whole call center was in tears reading this.”
The above video was posted to TikTok and featured a series of text messages between the poster’s son and a 911 dispatcher. It’s clear that the dispatcher is taking this very seriously, but it quickly becomes obvious that the person texting is a minor. The exchange even begins with, “Uhh I got scammed for 7 dollars. And he’s not giving it back this is his number,” with a phone number attached.
The image of the phone number was not delivered, so the boy texted the number again, to which the dispatcher asked for his age. After realizing he is only 11 years old, the dispatcher messaged back with, “i tried to call you because i need to speak to your parents. A deputy is on the way to speak to you now.”
The entire exchange ends with the dispatcher telling the boy that a deputy is on the way because “they will speak to you and your parents about you texting 911.” After explaining that his parents will get mad, the dispatcher doubles down with, “you can explain to the deputies and your mom why you texted 911. since you are not answering the phone and are a juvenile, i have to send a deputy. They will be there shortly.”
Florida Boy Texts 911 After Allegedly Getting Scammed in Roblox
For context, it is illegal to intentionally call 911 for non-emergency reasons. In fact, misusing it can result in heavy fines and even potential jail time. This is likely why a deputy had to be sent to the boy’s house.
The comments quickly filled up with replies of people who found the situation hilarious, with one from former Disney Channel star Skai Jackson saying, “I’m screaming.” Another top comment read, “This got me crying so bad I didn’t know you could text 911.”
There haven’t been any updates posted since the video went viral, though it is hoped that the boy has since learned not to contact 911 unless it is for a real emergency.
