The Witcher 3: The Complete Edition is officially heading to the Nintendo Switch this October. This was announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live via a new trailer, which you can see below:
The game will include all the content you love about The Witcher 3 including its expansions. As for the trailer itself, well, yeah. It doesn’t look too great, visually speaking. Of course, the Nintendo Switch just isn’t built for games like CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 and it has been previously reported that some compromises had to be made for the sake of performance. In an interview with VGC back in June, CD Project Red’s UI Coordinator Alvin Liu addressed these trade-offs:
“We’re really happy with how Witcher 3 is playing on Switch. It’s still at a quality that we’re proud of, but we also understand that there were hardware trade-offs that we had to do, in terms of performance versus graphics.”
Liu continued, stating that the game still looked great:
“Right now there’s a bit less foliage and some of draw the distances are lower… but it still looks amazing. I was very impressed. Unless you pointed a lot of changes out to me I probably wouldn’t have noticed them.”
The Nintendo Switch port will run at 720p while docked and 540p in handheld mode. The game may not look “amazing” but having The Witcher 3 on a portable console is a plus, as long as the gameplay doesn’t suffer due to performance issues.
You can play The Witcher 3: The Complete Edition on the Nintendo Switch on October 15th, 2019.
In other Gamescom news, Gears 5 started off Gamescom Opening Night Live with a new story trailer and details surrounding its Horde mode.
