When many people who have been registered to a particular side begin to drift to the opposing one, it might be time to pay attention to what is going on. Following the events at Donald Trump’s State of the Union, a Louisiana man who is a registered Democrat finally decided to switch sides due to the apparent divide in the country.
In a TikTok video, the army combat veteran shared that the revelations at the SOTU were the last straw for him. “There’s no point in my staying at this party,” he said as he explained his reasons. The veteran shared that he had lost his stepfather to an illegal immigrant driver, and he never got an apology from the Black community, who brought these people in with the policies they voted for.
“This is why I’m leaving the Democrats. Y’all are so fixated on hating Trump that you don’t care about anything else happening around,” he stated bluntly. He added that most people were victims of losing a loved one to these “non-English, non-sign-reading, non-stop-sign-stopping illegal immigrants.”
The man added that when the president asked at the SOTU that anyone who was for the American people over illegal immigrants stand up, the Democrats who did not stand proved that they did not care about them. As a result, he was decamping. “The newest member of the Republican party,” he stated of himself.
Many netizens shared the same sentiment. “Can’t get over the fact that they hate Trump more than they love our country,” one echoed. “Trump said it himself, ‘They are not after me, they are after you. I’m just in the way,‘” another said. “I am a registered independent, but I mostly vote Democrat. But lately, I vote Republican. By no means am I a Trump fan; however, policies are more important to me,” one TikToker confessed.
“Welcome to the Republican family. As a Puerto Rican, I will never vote Democratic ever again,” another encouraged. “People forget, Trump is an old-school New York Democrat… welcome, brother,” a user pointed out. “I think John Fetterman was the only Dem who clapped and stood up. I’m starting to like Fetterman,” another wrote concerning the issue the man pointed out. “Such a disgrace to watch! I am going to register as a Republican because I can no longer support this,” a netizen said.
One user sympathized with the Louisiana man, writing, “Honey, I am so sorry about your stepfather. Me too. 32 years of voting blue. I changed my affiliation yesterday. I was on the fence for a while. Last night was the nail in the coffin for me.”
Someone else pointed out, “But when the President mentioned insider trading, they stood because it deals with money!” Another concluded, “Last night opened my eyes, they do NOT care about Americans, period.”
