When a customer receives the wrong order, McDonald’s managers should promptly address the issue with courtesy and efficiency to ensure the customer leaves satisfied. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case recently in Spartanburg, South Carolina, when a McDonald’s manager was caught on camera having a heated argument with a patron over an alleged mistake with his order. The footage is currently making the rounds online.
The video is recorded by another customer in the store who is witnessing the heated exchange, and begins with the South Carolina patron dropping his bagged McDonald’s order onto the counter, curtly asking, “Fix this.” Because of the distance from the interaction, the manager’s words are quite difficult to discern, but it sounds like she’s ready to offer a refund, but she requests that the customer show his receipt, though it appears that the man does not have the receipt on him.
The frustrated customer explains that he received a “double cheese, fish, with extra tartar sauce,” which is apparently not what he ordered. After asking where his receipt is, the man claims that it was in the bag with the rest of his order. However, there’s no receipt in the bag, according to the manager. “It was in that bag right there,” explains the patron, though the manager states, “Obviously, it’s not in there. I need a receipt. I need a receipt. It don’t matter. I’m not gonna refund you for nothing that I don’t see.”
Annoyed with how the incident is increasingly escalating, the man fires, “This is gonna get ugly.” The McDonald’s employee, however, snaps back, “Okay, let it get ugly. Let it get ugly.” After debating whether it was Big Mac sauce or tartar sauce in his burger, the two continue exchanging sharp barbs. After further back-and-forth, the man claims that he drove “15 miles” to return his incorrect order, though the manager sticks to her guns and tells him, “I don’t need to refund nothing.” To this, the man yells back, “You are not the King!” as the pair continue to argue.
“Get out my store!” yells the McDonald’s employee, as the argument continues to heat up, and even the witness filming the encounter says under his breath, “I’m calling 91–.” though he stops mid-sentence. After some more yelling, the manager can be heard asking her colleagues to call the police. At the end of the footage, the customer notices the person filming and approaches him, stating, “Crazy John right here. This [expletive] is as stupid as these [expletive].”
As the video continues to garner attention online, netizens took to the comments to share their reactions to the chaotic footage. On Reddit, one user wrote, “I think the reason the manager didn’t give the refund is because the guy didn’t have a receipt” while another chipped in with, “The manager denied the refund. My assessment is that there was no receipt.” One commenter cracked up at the sauce debate, writing, “Know yo sauces!!” Meanwhile, over on Facebook, one person commented, “Is it a fish sandwich or a double cheese fish sandwich im so confused homie said bout 3 different orders and you dealing with a black women you not going to win that battle coming up the way you did sir lol“.
