Even warming up a car no longer feels safe in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as ICE struck again, this time detaining a woman who had stepped outside for what should have been a routine task.
In a video posted on Instagram, an ICE agent could be seen holding onto a woman in the snow, preparing to arrest her as she stood next to her vehicle. A voice behind the camera repeatedly asked, “What’s your name?” The woman struggled against the agent, who refused to let go of her hand. She was also on a phone call, speaking in a language other than English. Someone filming asked another person nearby,
“What’s she saying?” The response suggested the woman was calling someone to come get her children. The video caption provided further context, explaining that the woman had come outside to warm up her car when ICE detained her. While she was being held, she desperately tried to reach someone to watch her children, who were now alone inside the house. “This isn’t immigration policy; this is ripping families apart in real time,” it read.
The comment section quickly filled with outrage, as viewers condemned ICE’s actions. “That doesn’t look like a killer or rapist to me,” one user wrote. Another questioned the circumstances, saying, “This is just not right…are these people lurking in the woods?”
Concern for the woman’s safety poured in. “This is terrifying. She has no jacket,” someone emphasized. Another commenter pointed out the danger to her children, writing, “There is no reason for them to do this. Her kids are alone. They are endangering the kids!”
Some expressed how they might have reacted if they were present. “I would have been arrested for interfering with ICE if I had been there,” one person admitted. Others focused on the long-term consequences. “She will probably never see her kids again 🥲 [Expletive] ICE! And anyone who supports it!” another wrote. One commenter highlighted the humanity of the situation, stating, “She’s a mom desperately trying to get someone to come get her children because the children will now be alone. When they take the children into custody, they’re not being taken care of. This is inhumane and lawless.”
Suspicion surrounding the agents themselves was also raised. “There is no assurance the thug is even employed by Trump’s government,” one user suggested. Another questioned the legality of the arrest. “So you clearly don’t have a warrant, and this can’t be targeted…. You don’t even have a name?!!”
Sarcasm followed as one commenter wrote, “Kidnapping mothers and children in broad daylight. Welcome to the U.S.S.A.” Others expressed moral outrage. “This seems immoral and irresponsible. And criminal. Imagine supporting this,” one user said. Another ended with biting irony, “She must be a horrible criminal, ICE is doing such a great job locking up all those horrible criminals. Especially the children, they’re the most dangerous of them all!”
