The honest truth is that too many people are being overworked in our day and age. When this happens over and over again, workers become easily burned out. This repeated failure in the system can ruin a business at its roots. One California manager discovered quickly that the other workers at McDonald’s didn’t want to put in the same effort as her. This is why, at the end of her workday, they all clocked out. She was left her to finish the dirty work.
Halo (@halolovely.2) posted a video showing what she had to deal with at the end of a long workday. She explained she is closing manager at a California McDonald’s and was supposed to only work from 4 p.m. – 12 a.m. However, because the other workers decided to clock out and leave her alone, she worked until 2 a.m. And a good question is, did she get paid for those extra hours? Or was she just expected to pick up the slack and do it anyway?
In the video, Halo sounds irritated as she says, “I have no closers. They, uh…. Went home.” She explained that one person clocked out early and another claimed a family emergency and ditched her at the last minute. Halo spans her camera around the room, showing tons of dishes that need done, trash that needs taken out, and various items that need cleaned up.
Commenters tried to tell Halo that she’s a manager and should be prepared for situations like this. But as she comments back, “Closing managers have to have 2 kitchen closers while I count drawers and clean the front.” Another commenter also pointed out, “All these people hating on you don’t realize this is also a safety issue!! Nobody should be alone in a store in the middle of the night.” Especially considering Halo is a woman by herself in an empty restaurant, this is incredibly true and scary.
One commenter praised her, “Honestly much respect. This is NOT an easy job.” It’s so easy for people to place their order, get their food, and drive away without thinking anything of it. But what happens behind the scenes, even at a fast-food restaurant, can be fast-paced and so much work for a few people to handle. This is why it is so important for workers to be paid fairly and treated well in the workplace.
