Stories of ICE being involved in car chases are nothing new. Sadly, many times they end with someone getting seriously hurt. Recently, a new incident surfaced in Newark, New Jersey, where ICE agents attempted to chase a van. Considering how snowy and icy the weather was at the time, a crash soon occurred. The van driver had to be sent to the hospital, and to make matters worse, an innocent third vehicle was also implicated. Inside that vehicle were three minors, two 15-year-olds and one 12-year-old.
The video uploaded online shows the aftermath of the latest ICE chase incident in New Jersey. People were shouting in panic and horror. The cameraman was berating the ICE agents for what he described as a reckless chase on a New Jersey street. The agents, on their part, ignored him and dragged a person in handcuffs toward their vehicle. The cameraman continued to criticize the ICE agents as he scanned the surroundings, which were filled with damaged cars. The sight of the multi-car pileup was horrifying, as the front side of one car was completely bashed in.
In another scene, a New Jersey woman was shouting at an ICE agent while other residents held her back. The cameraman also spoke with another woman who said she had witnessed the entire incident. She described in detail how the van struck a white car while allegedly being chased by ICE agents.
After watching the video, many Reddit users criticized and condemned ICE agents’ behavior in New Jersey. Several remarked that initiating a car chase in the middle of winter was a very poor decision.“They look so unprofessional. The drop in hiring standards is so apparent in this video. Just taking desperate idiots off the street and handing them a vest and gun,” one user said.
Others said that this incident in New Jersey was further proof that ICE agents should not be given so much authority. “The worst part about ICE is that they have the opportunity to perform cop-like tasks without any sort of cop training. Obviously a cop isn’t a perfect step up, but most are good people with common sense. I would say the system corrupts the person more than the person being born as ‘evil,’” another commenter wrote.
One user even remarked that America was past the point of just protesting peacefully, arguing that ICE agents would not back down unless confronted with force. “Remember when armed citizens showed up in Minnesota and ICE immediately abandoned their vehicles and fled the scene and permanently changed their tactics? We’re at the point where we need to go in armed groups until these traitors see the inside of a courtroom for their many crimes,” one Redditor said.
