Tia Mowry’s return to reality TV is approaching. The actress, best known for her roles in Sister, Sister, and The Game, has done unscripted work before. However, it’s never been like this. In an interview with People, Tia, who’s going through a divorce from ex-husband Cory Hardrict, detailed why she chose to make a comeback. “For me, it’s never been about fame,” she said. “It’s been about inspiring, encouraging, and really having some purpose.” The description for Tia’s new show, My Next Act, says the multihyphenate will navigate “motherhood and her busy life while experiencing independence.” It will also showcase her journey post-divorce.
Although the show will have tough moments, Tia’s decision to film the series was easy. Elsewhere in her interview, she noted that she wanted to show people the “transition” she was going through.
“I didn’t see any representation when it came to women being vulnerable and open about this process and this journey. And I didn’t want anyone to feel alone and the way I felt.”
Tia Gets Real About Her Relationship With Sister Tamera Mowry: ‘There’s So Much Love There’
My Next Act isn’t the first time Tia Mowry has been on reality TV. She starred alongside her twin sister, Tamera Mowry, in a previous show called Tia & Tamera. During that series, which ran from 2011 to 2013, the famous sisters didn’t always see eye to eye. So, when a clip from Tia’s new series of her speaking about her seemingly strained relationship with Tamera went viral, it wasn’t a surprise.
“Being alone has been the most challenging part of my divorce,” she said. “It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close, and I could pick up the phone and call her, but that’s just not where we are right now.”
However, Tia made it clear that she was referring to their physical distance, not the bond they share as twin sisters. “I’m just wanting a hug, you know what I mean?” she said. “That’s what I’m referring to.”
Tia, who lives in Los Angeles, noted that as people get older and grow, their “responsibilities” change. “My sister has a family of her own…I guess what I’m saying is it’s normal. It’s very natural for us to create lives for ourselves.”
Despite the noise, Tia implied that she and Tamera were still in a good place.
“There’s so much love there,” she said. “There’s this beautiful bonding connection that we have that will never leave. My sister and I have always been women of inspiration, and we will continue to. And why would that change now?”
If you’re eager for Tia’s return to the small screen, you can catch her show when it premieres on October 4, 2024, on We TV.
