Who doesn’t know Tifa Lockhart? Since her original PlayStation debut, the Seventh Heaven bar owner has basically been the undisputed queen of the internet — for better or worse. According to 2025 research from Pornhub, Tifa was crowned as the most popular game character searched on the video-sharing site. Lara Croft and Street Fighter‘s Chun Li lag quite far behind in 2nd and 3rd place. But now, that Square Enix‘s IP-driven goon economy might be running into a hard stop, at least on the Japanese side of things.
Overnight, multiple Japanese creators on X shared that much of the fan-made Tifa-related lewd content was suddenly disappearing. “The Tifa works I was selling on FANZA and pictSPACE have been suspended,” @TTimop0503 wrote in a now-deleted post. “Let’s say I’m 100% in the wrong, I still didn’t realize they were this strict about derivative works. Because there’s so much Tifa fan content [over there], I never thought I’d get hit… Scary…”
Meanwhile, a user, @neat40dai, claimed the scale of the purge could be pretty significant. “Looks like Square Enix works are getting removed from FANZA’s AI doujin section. When I searched for ‘Tifa,’ 19 works had disappeared compared to four days ago,” they wrote.

Another creator, @rakusaidoujin, confirmed their artwork-sharing Pixiv account was temporarily suspended following a rights claim. However, they added that they had to remove works tied to both Square Enix and Capcom to begin the recovery process.
“Due to a copyright claim, my pixiv account is currently suspended. I am requesting account recovery after deleting works from Square Enix and Capcom. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your understanding.”
Anonymous users on fringe communities like 5ch also showed their concerns. “This is truly the end. Good job, FF bros and sis,” one joked. Another added, complete with innuendo, “Now we’re the ones on the receiving end that are squirming in frustration.” Another user asks, “Is Crimson-sensei okay?” referring to one particularly popular, veteran fan creator.
Some users also raised questions about consistency, “There are also tons of doujin for 2B from NieR. So what’s going on with that?” As well as criticizing the timing, “Well, I can kind of understand the company’s perspective, […] But if they start restrictions now, it will just make the developers, creators, and fans (the horny ones) all angry [at each other]. It’s a lose-lose situation,” wrote another.
The term doujin itself refers to smaller-scale, fan-made works, often sold independently either in physical events or digital distributors like FANZA or DLSite. For years, the community has skirted around the ‘quietly tolerated’ gray area, where companies mostly looked the other way in exchange for free publicity. But for some reason, that relationship might be starting to crack.

One popular theory floating around the Japanese sphere is because of AI-generated content. Some netizens and creators suspect that mass-produced lewd AI works of Tifa and co — especially those clearly made to quickly profit from gooners’ insatiable appetite — may have triggered stricter oversight. But that theory doesn’t fully hold up, since several users point out that even hand-drawn works are getting caught in the blast radius as well.
There’s still no official statement from the Final Fantasy developer addressing this specific situation at the time of writing. Maybe it’s intentional — drawing attention to it would just Streisand Effect the whole thing. But creators are getting the message: the Square Enix free goon ride might just be over.
