When it comes to ICE footage, the internet’s on it! All throughout the nation, social media creators and influencers alike have been using their channels and platforms to call out aggressive behavior by ICE agents. On August 27th, one of these creators – gonzo journalist and TikTok influencer Mary Jane Elton reported an ICE arrest outside a Portland Oregon music festival.
According to Mary Jane, whose TikTok channel is @m.j.elton:
“A protester was sitting near the driveway and DHS ran out and grabbed them by the throat.” Mary Jane posted a video clip of the bystanders and their explosive reactions.
The video captures the outrage over what’s being called an illegal arrest. We see countless DHS officers backing up from a furious crowd. An angry individual yells, “What the fuck is wrong with you? For f**king sitting down? You guys are gonna choke him out?”
Only seconds later, we hear the same person scream, “Are you f**king God? We’re on f**king public property!” Others chime in, shouting similar sentiments.
Accused Oregon Agents Choose To Remain Silent
The attack on the protestor isn’t in the uploaded video clip. Yet the ICE agents do not defend themselves in front of the people recording. They back up apprehensively, looking around them as though they’re afraid. They don’t speak up or ever address the accusations. The camera then pans to the roof of a building, where many appear to be filming the horrible ordeal.
In an update video, Mary Jane explained that ICE moved the altercation into a garage, where they quickly shut the door so the public couldn’t see.
Viewers were exasperated over ICE’s free reign to use unlawful tactics on our public streets. One follower commented, “Any law enforcement [officer] is subject to the constitution and the laws of the state that they are in. If they violate that[,] they should all go to jail…”
Another comment stated, “Police brutality at it best!!!!” With ICE and DHS appearing nonstop in civilian footage, arresting or accosting anyone who doesn’t seem to like or support their agenda, statements like this don’t seem so far off base.
