Ahead of the commencement of their prison sentences, Todd and Julie Chrisley may have one more battle looming as Chloe Chrisley’s biological mom moves to regain her custody. Although the 31-year-old mom Angela Johnson has made no legal filing in that regard yet, she admitted she had been in the process long before the disgraced couple received their sentencing.
Speaking to TMZ, Angela, who shares 10-year-old Chloe with Todd and Julie Chrisley’s son, Kyle, divulged plans to revisit the matter in court and get a chance to finally “bring her daughter home.” She shared amid tears:
“I want her home. She deserves to be home. I’m her biological mom. I didn’t walk away from her. I was pushed out of her life.”
Angela Johnson Has Been On the Custody Battle With Todd And Julie Chrisley For Years
Notably, Todd and Julie Chrisley took custody of their granddaughter Chloe in 2014 after their son Kyle reached rock bottom while battling addiction and bipolar disorder. The Chrisley Knows Best stars shared the child’s custody with her real mom at the time. However, following Angela’s 2016 arrest for allegedly filing a false application for Medicaid assistance, the couple won full custody of their granddaughter. Since then, Chloe Chrisley’s biological mom has barely been present in her daughter’s life.
While speaking to TMZ, Angela explained the many circumstances that contributed to kicking her out of her daughter’s life. According to the South Carolina resident, while she’s been working with a legal team for years to win back her daughter, the Chrisleys’ move from Atlanta to Tennessee created a jurisdictional hindrance in the progress of her custody battle.
Unlike Angela Johnson, Kyle seems cool with the idea of leaving his daughter’s custody to Todd and Julie Chrisley. In 2016 after his parents won full custody, Kyle took to social media to thank them for standing by his side through his many flaws. Following their sentencing, his sister Savannah Chrisley, 25, announced her intention to gain custody of 10-year-old Chloe and their 16-year-old brother Grayson in her parent’s stead.
During her appearance on the Unlocked Podcast in November 2022, she admitted that easing her younger siblings into the reality of their incarceration was the hardest part of her parent’s legal battle. Yet, she is open to scaling that mountain and becoming a mother figure in both their lives as her parents serve their total of nineteen years sentence for tax evasion and fraud.
