Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are the latest victims of the burglary spree taking over Los Angeles. The veteran Hollywood couple had their property broken into while they were away. Despite a slew of celebrities previously complaining about the increased unsafety in LA, it seems the situation is only worsening.
Hanks and Wilson’s estate was terrorized by burglars weeks ago, with the assailants gaining access through a guest house on the property. TMZ reports that the intruders smashed a window to get in, triggering the home’s alarm system. Unfortunately, that didn’t stop them from ransacking the guest house. Luckily, they didn’t enter the main house before authorities responded.
As reported, the pair was not at home when the incident occurred in broad daylight. Hence, it is unsure what items, if any, were stolen from their house. The case is currently under investigation, but sources confirm that Hanks and Wilson weren’t specifically targeted. The burglary is instead the work of the many robbery crews terrorizing that area of Los Angeles. The police have yet to make an arrest.
The unfortunate break-in comes almost a month after the Forrest Gump actor celebrated his 68th birthday in style. As expected, Wilson, who has been married to Hanks for almost 40 years, penned a heartfelt tribute to her man. “Happy Birthday to my love! 🎊🎂🌸 You made the world a better place the day you were born. You bring joy wherever you go. You are the bringer of laughs, a lover of vehicles, or pretty much anything, shaped like a round bath tub,” she gushed.
This Hollywood Couple Suffered The Same Fate As Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson
Hanks and Wilson aren’t the only famous Hollywood names to suffer a home invasion. In June, actress Goldie Hawn revealed that the home which she shares with partner Kurt Russell was broken into. In a similar manner, their home was ravaged while they were out for dinner for a few hours. The Cactus Flower star dished on the traumatic incident during an appearance on Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa.
It’s just ’cause L.A. is terrible. I mean, we were robbed once. We came back and went in the house. I went up to the stairs and I walked into my closet. I just lost it. They had broken in from the balcony to our bedroom, our closets.”
Hawn, who described the invaders as “sophisticated,” shared that she put the break-in to a one-time incident. Unfortunately, four months later, she endured another burglary. This time she was home with their dog. As a result, Hawn and Russel are considering leaving LA. “What if we couldn’t live in LA, where would we live? We both decided, I think it’s Palm Desert. … It’s so safe,” she declared.
