With Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, players can enjoy the 90s TR games with modern controls that allow you to rotate the camera more easily. The new movement and aim mechanics in this game are so good for casually playing the game. But the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered levels are primarily designed for the tank controls, hence why it’s still preferable to modern mechanics unless you’re using cheats to bully your way through the story.

The tank controls in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered games are an option. You can choose to play the games as you did in the original titles 20 years ago. The name is self-explanatory: Your character moves like a tank with the movement buttons. This allows for more precise controls if mastered, which is considered best for platformers like TR.

If you’re unfamiliar with this movement system, the best you can do is to visit the Croft Manor from the main menu. In Lara’s house, you’ll find different locations for training all sorts of movement and jumping mechanics, while also learning how the directional buttons work with the tank-based system.

The main benefits you get with the tank controls in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered are precise movement and backward hop. You can not move backward while using the tank controls, but if you press the button, Lara jumps backward. This move is pretty crucial for your forward jump measurement and dodging.

One important tip you should remember with the tank controls is the jump mechanics. Pressing the square button will activate a normal jump. But if you move the left stick to any direction before jumping, Lara performs a cinematic hop to the left, right, and backward.

Jumping forward with the tank controls is also a trick to master in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered. Doing a normal forward jump, you can go two tiles and land there. Now if you run, jump, and hold the X/A button, you can go for a three-tile distance and reach the platform’s surface. Remember, if you hold the R1/RB button and walk near the edges, you will never drop down. Also holding the R2/RT button while running allows you to reach the edge and prevent Lara from falling.

Overall, the tank controls in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered are recommended for passing the tricky levels in the game. In combat, however, you can take advantage of the modern controls for dodging and shooting the targets at ease.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is available to play on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
