Wandering the vast world of Ark: Survival Ascended, you will find many wonderful places to explore but you should seek to find a suitable spot to build a shelter or at least a small base as well. Fortunately, there are plenty of potential places for this in the game, so you can definitely find something for yourself regardless of whether you play in PvP or PvE mode. When choosing a base location, there are many factors to consider, from security to size so that you have space for all your stuff. We’ve described each location in detail, along with its pros and cons, to make it easier for you to choose.
10. Stonehenge
Stonehenge starts our list and we want to say right away that it is best suited for PvE gameplay. It is located in the southern part of the Southern Isles, at the following coordinates:
- Longitude: 56.3
- Latitude: 87.3
The location is considered quite inaccessible due to the jagged mountains around it, so this is another plus to the defense. You will also find a swimming pool here, which will be extremely useful if you decide to breed water dinosaurs.
9. Carno Cave
The next place that will be a great option for deployment is Carno Cave, located on The Dead Island at the following coordinates:
- Longitude: 90.7
- Latitude 10.3
The entrance to the cave is through the water, so it will be challenging to get to you, considering that there are only predators around. If you are playing with friends, it is a great option to occupy the entire Dead Island, because the island itself is small, so with enough skill, you can take control of one of the most secure places on the entire map. There is plenty of space inside, so you can not only place your supplies here but also have enough room to put up turrets or other types of defense.
8. Lava Cave
Although in Ark: Survival Evolved, this location was not considered a good choice, however, after the remake, everything changed. It is located on the southeastern edge of The Southern Shores, at the following coordinates:
- Longitude: 93.1
- Latitude: 75
It is not so easy to get to it, given that part of the location is surrounded by water. The entrance can be found along the wall of the alcove, so if enemies want to reach you, place your defenses here. The size of the cave is very large, which means that you will have plenty of room to maneuver, develop, and breed dinosaurs. In addition, there will be a lot of lava inside, as well as an abyss into which your enemies can fall.
7. Far’s Peak Mountain
If you go to the northeastern part of the island, you will definitely notice the Farce Peak mountain and can find a great location at the following coordinates:
- Latitude: 82
- Longitude: 30
Climbing to the top, you will immediately see that this will be a great place for a shelter because of the abundance of resources around. Gathering these resources, you can create a good defense for the base, but it can be difficult given the size of the location. Although the place is open, it will be easy to defend it, because it is difficult to get there and the only effective method will be to attack from the air. This place is perfect for PvE mode, so if you are looking for an impregnable fortress, this is the right option.
6. Ice Cave
Next on our list is Ice Cave, which can be found in the northwestern part of the map, near the water at the following coordinates:
- Longitude: 13.8
- Latitude: 13.5
Although it is quite small, it is very convenient to defend. To get inside, you have to crouch down, so this limits the ability of most dinosaurs to enter. As for the enemy players, there are no problems too, because the location is very easy to defend from all sides and it will take you little time.
5. Plateau
Plateau in Ark: Survival Ascended is one of the best base locations you can find for an early game. It can be found at the following coordinates:
- Longitude: 10.7
- Latitude: 49.3
You will have the opportunity to breed water dinosaurs here, and there will be plenty of space for this. This location will be a real godsend in PvE mode, as there will be a lot of resources and you don’t need to build as many defenses as in PvP.
4. The Frozen Tooth Moutain
Building a base on top of The Frozen Tooth Moutain is one of the best choices you can make while playing Ark: Survival Ascended. To get there, move to the following coordinates:
- Longitude: 35.9
- Latitude: 58.8
Around the location, there will be a lot of resources that you can collect to develop faster and build an impregnable fortress. In addition, you will have the advantage of being in a higher position, which will allow you to react faster in the event of an attack. The only downside is the cold, which will cause damage if you don’t have the right clothes.
3. Hunter Cave
This place is located in the southern part of the map at these coordinates:
- Longitude: 80
- Latitude: 53.5
The cave is located in the heart of the forest and is quite large with many small tunnels that you can maneuver through. There is also a pool inside where you can breed water dinosaurs. From here you have many paths to almost any point on the map, which can be both a plus and a minus, depending on the mode you play in.
2. Swamp Cave
The next spot is located southwest of the map center at the following coordinates:
- Longitude: 62.3
- Latitude: 36.9
We want to say right away that if you are playing in PvP mode and do not have a powerful character, do not even try to build a base there. The reason is that many players will come and attack your base because this is one of the few locations where you can get a lot of cementing paste. This resource can be obtained from dragonflies that spawn inside this huge cave. The location itself is perfect since there is a lot of space inside the cave and narrow tunnels for maneuvering. If you decide to set up a home for yourself here, take care to set up strong defenses and do not close the main entrance because this will stop the dragonflies from spawning.
1. Central Cave
As you have guessed from the title, the next place is located almost in the center of the map, namely at these coordinates:
- Longitude: 41.7
- Latitude: 47.4
The cave is very large and you together with your friends can build almost anything you want here. Also, there is a small pond that will allow you to breed water dinosaurs. Inside, you will find many resources, ranging from crystals to an artifact of the clever. It may not be the safest location for a base, but it’s definitely the most beautiful, so if you’re confident that you can defend it, this is the best choice in Ark: Survival Ascended.
