In recent years, fishing mini-games have become a staple part of many video game genres. RPGs, Simulation Games, and even Adventure games would all feel incomplete without the ability to fish. As we move further into the future of gaming, it becomes easier to implement fishing into games as well. However, only a handful of games have perfected the fishing mini-game formula. These games, like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, have some of the best fishing mini-games. Here are 10 games that feature some amazing and engaging fishing mini-games.
10. Minecraft
Of course, many players know about fishing in Minecraft. To fish, players will need to craft a fishing rod and cast it into the water. Players will then need to wait for the bobber to gently dip into the water, and then pull in the fish. Although this may not feel like the most interesting fishing mini-game, it still creates a very relaxing experience. Additionally, players can find lots of interesting loot to help them in their Minecraft adventures.
9. World of Warcraft
Once Again, while not the most complicated fishing, World of Warcraft fishing can easily hook players in. Fishing in WoW functions almost the same as fishing in Minecraft. However, the added benefits of leveling skills and catching rare fish to sell adds another level of grinding to the mini-game. Concisely, WoW’s fishing can become an addicting, yet relaxing grind for all players.
8. Fable
Next, Fable was an interesting RPG that brought morality systems to the forefront of gaming. Although not many people remember its fishing, it had a very unique system. After waiting for a fish to bite, players will have to mash the A button to reel the fish in. However, Fable does take a bit of a hit for being a bit frustrating at times.
7. Torchlight 2
Torchlight 2 is a Diablo-esque action RPG with an excellent and rewarding fishing mini-game. To play, players will need to find and click on a fishing hole. Next, a circle will slowly start to enclose around an image of a fishing hook. Eventually, players will need to press the button to reel in the fish right when the two circles overlap. Torchlight 2’s fishing mini-game is not only fun but very rewarding to pull off correctly.
6. Final Fantasy 15
One of the more complicated systems on the list, Final Fantasy 15 brings some action to fishing. Players will need to first bait a fish to the hook by gently reeling the lure in. Then, once a fish is hooked, players will need to reel in the fish, while pulling to the left or right to prevent the fish from breaking the line. Although it can be a bit tricky for beginners, mastering FF15’s fishing system will be a great way to kill time.
5. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Fishing in Twilight Princess can be a bit unintuitive at first, but once mastered is a relaxing break from saving Hyrule. Once again, players in this fishing mini-game will need to bait fish to the hook, before reeling it in. While much less complicated than FF15, Twilight Princess’s simplicity helps bring it to the number five spot. Sadly, some players found the fishing in this game to be more frustrating due to the lack of a well-explained tutorial.
4. Sea of Thieves
Overall, Sea of Thieves fishing can be one of the most relaxing experiences the game has to offer. Functioning similarly to FF15, fishing in Sea of Thieves involves both tiring out the fish by pulling left and right and slowly reeling it in. For players who aren’t very familiar with this system, this can be a frustrating experience. After a little practice, however, players will have fun fishing on the open seas in no time.
3. Animal Crossing
Out of any entry on this list, Animal Crossing fishing is by far the most relaxing. In the game, players will need to simply wait for the fish to bite, then press a button to real it in. Simplicity is key in a fishing mini-game, and Animal Crossing does that the best out of any game. However, fishing can get a bit more difficult with trickier fish pretending to bite or quickly swimming away after they bite.
2. Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley’s fishing is a very rewarding mechanic that has a huge impact on gameplay. In this game, after getting a bite, players will need to follow the movements of a fish by pressing and releasing the button. However, treasures can appear off the path of the fish, tempting players to go for additional rewards but potentially losing the fish. In the end, what makes Stardew Valley’s fishing mini-game special is just how addicting it can be, with some players devoting entire days of game time to fishing in the river.
1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Finally, Fire Emblem: Three Houses’ fishing system is bound to make players want to spend less time teaching and more time fishing. This system turns fishing into a battle. After getting a bite, players will need to deal damage to the fish by timing their button presses to the rhythm of rapidly closing circles. The more accurate the press the more damage you’ll deal. This fishing mechanic is fun, and intense, and makes for one of the best fishing mini-games in gaming.
