As a series, Diablo 4 has always included some fantastic yet difficult boss fights. So far, many consider Diablo 4 to be a lot harder than Diablo 3, presenting a fun but fair challenge. This difficulty is most apparent in the game’s wide variety of bosses and elite enemies. In these encounters, players must avoid massive attacks while maintaining a high DPS. However, some bosses in this game have such challenging mechanics that turn simple fights into epic battles. Here’s a look at the 5 hardest bosses in Diablo 4, from the Butcher to Lilith herself.
5. The Butcher
Many fans of the Diablo series were happy to see the return of the Butcher as a boss in Diablo 4. Hailing from Diablo 2, the Butcher is a boss that can randomly spawn in any dungeon. This can be a massive problem for low-level characters. While not necessarily hard for prepared players, the Butcher’s difficulty comes from another source. The Butcher’s random spawn chance and high power can cause major problems at the beginning of the game. The best way to counteract this randomness is through non-engagement. Sometimes the best thing to try is running away, though even this can be difficult to pull off. Despite possible counterplay, the Butcher is still one of the most challenging bosses in Diablo 4.
4. Wandering Death
Diablo 4’s next hardest boss has to be the Wandering Death. Acting as one of the game’s challenging World Bosses, the Wandering Death is one of three currently in the game. As players know, World Bosses are memorable encounters that allow players to take on a massive boss with a group of allies. Some special rewards and equipment will be available for groups who can defeat the boss in under 15 minutes. For the Wandering Death, the challenge comes from navigating around the many Death Tornadoes that spawn around the battlefield. Failing to dodge Wandering Death’s Death Beam attack can also be catastrophic. As long as players stay aware of their surroundings, they should be fine in this fight.
3. Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish
Another boss returning from Diablo 2 is Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish. As the boss of Act IV, Andariel may be the first campaign boss players will struggle with in their playthroughs. First, Andariel’s arena is a bit smaller, making it more difficult for range characters to kite her. This means that melee characters may have an advantage in this fight. On top of this, many fast-moving projectiles curve across the battlefield in hard-to-predict patterns. Additionally, she uses her chains to create some powerful AoE attacks that players should make their highest priority. Overall, Andariel may be lacking a bit in defense, but her massive attacks make her one of the top 5 Diablo 4 bosses.
2. Ashava, the Pestilent
Next, Ashava the Pestilent is arguably Diablo 4’s hardest World Boss so far. To stand a chance, players should ensure they are maximizing the potential of their builds. Players must watch out for the massive poison attack that can cover the battlefield. This will cause some big problems overall, especially for those not ready. Next, Ashava’s attacks have a lot of one-shot potential. This means that players should always observe Ashava’s attack patterns, ensuring they don’t get knocked down too early. In the end, properly managing resources should make this experience much more manageable. However, even with 11 other players, this encounter still may be a struggle.
1. Lilith
Finally, the last of Diablo 4’s top five hardest bosses is Lilith herself, the game’s final boss. As many have expected, Lilith is not only a formidable mechanical challenge but will require multiple attempts to get it down. Lilith’s fight is broken up into two phases. Luckily, a checkpoint will allow players to start right at the second phase if defeated. Her first phase should be pretty simple but still presents a challenge. Mainly capitalizing off of her slower attacks and ensuring you aren’t overwhelmed by her summons are the keys to success.
However, the real challenge begins in the second phase of the fight. Mobility and range attacks will be critical. The arena will now be filled with lethal attacks that players must navigate while maintaining their DPS. This can be an extreme challenge for melee characters, though not impossible for those especially good at dodging attacks. In the end, what matters is understanding Lilith’s attack patterns and capitalizing on every opportunity the player can get. While the first few tries beating may be challenging, before long, the fight will become a fun challenge.
