The first trailer for Toy Story 4 has finally dropped, and the Internet cannot contain its excitement.
The new footage, originally slated to debut alongside the release of Ralph Breaks the Internet, features the original cast of toys banding together once again, but with the new addition of Forky, a “toy” made from a spork and some pipe cleaners. You can watch the trailer below:
While plot details are scarce, some things can be taken away from the trailer’s official YouTube description:
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
Director Josh Cooley wasn’t expecting the Toy Story franchise to continue, but found a new tale to tell.
… just like in life, every ending is a new beginning. Woody now being in a new room, with new toys, and a new kid, was something we have never seen before. The questions of what that would be like became the beginning of an entertaining story worth exploring.
Perhaps the biggest mystery of the new trailer is that of Forky, the aforementioned new character voiced by comedian Tony Hale. The spork-turned-toy isn’t convinced that he belongs in the same category as the others and is struggling with his identity. Cooley elaborated on Forky’s role in the upcoming film:
A toy’s purpose is to be there for its child. But what about toys that are made out of other objects? Forky is a toy that Bonnie made out of a disposable spork, so he’s facing a crisis. He wants to fulfill his purpose as a spork, but now has a new toy purpose thrust upon him.
We aren’t sure when we’ll see more of Toy Story 4 just yet, but this sure whets our appetites for the time being. Toy Story 4 hits theaters on June 21, 2019.
