The first official trailer for the Child’s Play remake has been released online. You can see the full trailer down below:
Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Rec, Legion) stars as Karen Barclay, a single mother who unknowingly gives her son an evil doll for his birthday. Although this premise sounds like a shot-for-shot remake of the original Child’s Play from 1988, there have been some changes. The big one being Chucky’s origin story. In the original series, the “Good Guy” doll was possessed by a serial killer. In this remake, the serial killer premise is stripped out in favor of the doll being a rogue AI with murderous tendencies. The movie will also rebrand the doll’s name. Instead of “Good Guy”, the doll will be called “Buddi”. This is a homage to the dolls that were the inspiration for franchise creator Don Mancini, My Buddy.
Along with Plaza, the Child’s Play remake will star Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out) as Andy Barclay, Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) as Detective Mike Norris, among many others. The film is set to release June 21st, 2019.
Don Mancini took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Chucky’s new look back in September. Spoilers, he wasn’t a big fan:

For those of you who aren’t fans of Chucky’s new look or this remake, like Mancini, I have some good news for you. Mancini will helm a Chucky TV series at the SYFY network with Brad Dourif returning to voice Chucky. This series will be a continuation of the original films and remain totally separate from the upcoming remake.
