‘The Secret Life of Pets’ comes from the same kooky geniuses that us ‘Despicable Me’. Illumination, apparently not resting on their laurels with the inevitable success of the Minions spinoff movie, have released a teaser trailer for their next film;
The Secret Life of Pets seeks to answer a question every pet owner has asked themselves at some point. Namely, ‘what exactly does my pet get up to when I’m not around?’ If you watch your pet when you’re not playing with them, they just tend to lounge around. Would they honestly just do that all the time you’re gone as well? That sounds really, really boring.
It certainly wouldn’t make a very interesting movie. Of course, having the pets behave too human probably wouldn’t be all that good either. If you’re going to make a film about pets, they should remind people of their actual pets. Otherwise, you’re just watching a film about furry humans. Fortunately, judging by the trailer, Illumination have been working hard to do the idea justice.
While the teaser trailer doesn’t give away any details about the plot, according to the film’s IMDb page;
‘Taking place in a Manhattan apartment building, Max’s life as a favorite pet is turned upside down, when his owner brings home a sloppy mongrel named Duke. They have to put their quarrels behind when they find out that an adorable white bunny named Snowball is building an army of abandoned pets determined to take revenge on all happy-owned pets and their owners.’
People involved with the project include Ellie Kemper, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan and Hannibal Buress. The director is apparently Chris Renaud of ‘Despicable Me’ fame. Meanwhile, the script is apparently the work of Brian Lynch, Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio.
