A transgender influencer is crowdfunding to leave the United States. Amid the increase in anti-LGBTQ+ laws ushered in by President Donald Trump‘s administration, many affected parties are seeking greener pastures that align with their lifestyle. This is true for TikToker Callie Thomas, who recently announced her plans to escape. However, she is looking to the Internet to make that dream possible.
In a TikTok clip that has since gone viral, Callie shared, “I’m leaving the country, and I could use a little help.” Although confirming that her state of residence is relatively safe for transgender people, the influencer noted she is unhappy about the direction the country is headed. As a result, she wants to leave by the end of the year with her fiancée. “To a place that has more constitutional protections for people like me,” Callie explained to her followers.
Unfortunately, she needs help from Internet users to achieve this dream. The influencer revealed TikTok recently approved her page to earn commissions, and she plans to use the avenue to fund her travel. Callie then began advertising Burt’s Bees Overnight Lip Treatment, urging Internet users to buy the product from her TikTok shop. Mocking Trump and Elon Musk’s leadership, she said
“Every penny that I earned gets me closer and closer to my goal of getting the heck out of DOGE!”
The transgender woman concluded, appreciating viewers and promising to upload more product recommendations. While it isn’t unusual for TikTok creators to earn commissions, fans online are pissed at Callie’s motive. They believe it is ridiculous for her to crowdfund for such a flimsy excuse, especially when it is her decision to leave the US.
“Selling chapstick to flee the country? That’s a new one! Where exactly do they think has more constitutional protections than the U.S.?” one user questioned.
“Liberals wanting everybody to pay their bills, shocked,” this commenter slammed while another added, “Wait, you want help from the country you’re leaving 🤦🏻♀️.”
“Get a few jobs & pay for your own move! Who the hell are you to ask for $$$?” This angry user wrote while another noted, “Fantastic!!! Pakistan is wide open. They’ll welcome you with open arms!“
“Now I understand why voters who support people like this do not care where their tax dollars go,” this remark read.
When Donald Trump took office on Jan. 20, he signed several executive orders that affected the LGBTQ+ community. One of such orders declares that the U.S. government will recognize only two sexes—male and female. Elites like actress Hunter Schafer have publicly spoken about how the new policies have made life a little harder. However, the notion of crowdfunding one’s self-deportation remains absurd for many.
