Sometimes, I’ll read an article or watch a video of justice being served, and it almost feels like a skit rather than real life. There are people out there who genuinely think that they’re exempt from being punished or reprimanded just because they say so. Fortunately, a Reddit video shows justice being served at a comedy club attended by a transphobic heckler who just couldn’t keep his mouth shut.
The video takes place at a Steve Hofstetter stand up set at a comedy club, where a man in the audience stops the show to make transphobic remarks. Fortunately, the comedian handled the situation incredibly well, being sure to showcase his humorous talents in between. Eventually, the heckler was removed from the club by security guards. When he left, another audience member exclaimed that the man had four pints of empty beer glasses under his chair.
Unfortunately, things didn’t end there, as the transphobic heckler waited outside of the club for the audience to leave. He became aggressive with a few of the trans audience members until finally, he took a swing at a gentleman who was trying to protect the women. At that point, he is notified by the comedy club that the cops have been called.
When the officers arrive, they tell the man to leave and that if he does, they won’t arrest or charge him with anything. Instead of abiding by the officer’s wishes, he continues to heckle them until he is finally arrested, searched, and found to be in possession of a ton of drugs. Commenters quickly noted how many chances the man had to leave the scene before things escalated.
“And the police were still going to let him go… even though he committed an assault on camera and was obviously intoxicated. White privilege is very real.”
Hopefully, the man received some kind of trespass order from the club to avoid this kind of situation ever happening again. Personally, I hope that the internet discovered who he was and has gone to lengths to ensure that he can’t be seen in public without being recognized for who he is ever again.
My favorite part of the entire video is that towards the end at the very bottom, Hofstetter posts a short ad for his upcoming shows. You’ve got to get your marketing in wherever you can!
