Devolver Digital has been one of the strongest forces for propelling indie video games to the mainstream, with titles such as the silly battle royale Fall Guys, pun-filled roguelike Enter the Gungeon, or even the more recent card-based Inscryption (which was nominated for The Game Awards this year!). One of their strongest partner studios, Flying Wild Hog, is currently working on several games including Shadow Warrior 3, Evil West, and most importantly for today’s news, Trek to Yomi. The team debuted a brand new 4K gameplay trailer for Trek to Yomi and honestly, it looks absolutely breathtaking. Have a look for yourself if you don’t believe me.
The trailer debuts the game with its surprisingly effective black and white visual style, heralding back to the samurai films of old. With fires and destruction decimating his country, Hiroki does everything he can to bring justice to the perpetrators. Hinoki makes it clear that nothing will stand in his way, as his opponents are slaughtered with deadly precision and turned into a spray of blood. While a 2D fighter by nature though, the new trailer for Trek to Yomi shows various scenes of puzzles, indicating a taste of 2D puzzler is in order.
In case you’re otherwise unaware of this upcoming game, Trek to Yomi’s premise is described quite well on its Steam page:
As a vow to his dying Master, the young swordsman Hiroki is sworn to protect his town and the people he loves against all threats. Faced with tragedy and bound to duty, the lone samurai must voyage beyond life and death to confront himself and decide his path forward.”
Trek to Yomi will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5,
