Trump-Backed Georgia Senate Nominee Slammed Due to Links to White Nationalist Influencer: ‘Linked? In the Same Way My Head is ‘Linked’ to My Body’

Controversial

Georgia’s Republican Senate nominee Mike Collins has ties to a right-wing influencer with white nationalist views: his own son-in-law, David Alan Scheer II. Reports about the connection have angered some Georgia residents, who believe the politician is too closely aligned with extremist views.

As reported by The Guardian, Scheer appeared in Collins’ campaign photos and attended his victory party. More notably, he is married to Collins’ daughter, Summer. What makes the connection controversial is that Scheer has a history of “sharing antisemitic material and sentiment and Nazi imagery on the internet.” In addition to promoting white nationalism, he has also reportedly expressed antisemitic views.

Collins, who previously served as the Republican representative for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District, has long been associated with far-right figures and has faced accusations of antisemitism, which he has denied. He won the Republican nomination earlier this year after receiving an endorsement from President Donald Trump.

Georgia Senate Nominee Mike Collins Criticized for Son-in-law

The connection between Collins and his son-in-law sparked backlash on Reddit’s r/Georgia. One user commented: “Linked? In the same way my head is ‘linked’ to my body, maybe.”

Others responded with little surprise: “I mean, if he’s Trump-backed, he’s already linked to a white nationalist. This is a feature, not a bug for that party.” Someone else added: “This is my shocked face. The GOP is just a white nationalist party at this point.”

Some users were not convinced, however, that these alleged ties would tarnish Collins’ campaign. According to one of them, “The problem with our state is, most people are never going to see this, and if they do, they won’t care.” Some folks even argued that “the sad thing is, this will probably boost his numbers outside the Metro.”

One seemingly saddened Georgian said, “I expect that he comes from a place where almost all of the people around him are just like him. I grew up in South Georgia, and I realized about age seven that I was surrounded by some truly evil human beings.”

Mike Collins will face Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff in the November general election. It remains to be seen whether he will defeat the incumbent senator.
