The event focused on Trump’s proposal to eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits, part of what he has called the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” But it quickly swerved into a long attack on Omar, Somalia, and Somali immigrants living in Minnesota. He described Somalia as facing crime and instability and criticized Omar during the remarks. “She comes here from Somalia and tells us how to run the United States,” Trump told the crowd. “Get the hell out—what a phony.”
Then he waded into the old marriage accusation involving Omar and her second husband. “I believe she married her brother, which is totally illegal—although, it’s a lovely couple, actually, but it’s a little bit on the illegal side,” Trump said. Then he launched into a mock dialogue, miming both sides: “‘Darling, I love you very much.’ ‘Goodnight, brother. Let’s go to bed.’” He wrapped it up by asking the audience, “Isn’t she despicable?”
The claim has circulated since 2016, but no verified evidence has been established. Omar has denied the allegation, and no charges have been filed. After Trump’s speech, Omar fired back, calling his rant “unhinged” and saying that it would spark more outrage if it didn’t come from “a criminal who has 34 felony convictions.”
