Trump has promised to make America great again by kicking out so-called “illegal aliens” from the country. But when his supporters put their trust in him, many probably didn’t expect that this would include them or the people they care about. One person who found out the hard way is David Prine, a disabled United States Marine Corps veteran in Virginia.
Recently, Prine received devastating news. His wife, Yenifer Correa Ganan, had been arrested by ICE. This happened even though she entered the country legally through the CBP One parole program. She had fled violence in Colombia with her young daughter, seeking safety in the United States.
Despite being married to an immigrant, the Virginia man saw no issue with supporting Trump. In fact, he was such a devoted supporter that he donated almost all of his net income to Trump’s 2016 campaign, even earning an invitation to the inauguration. He truly believed in the cause. And what did he get in return? His wife detained by the very policies he supported.
So what does Prine have to say about it now? Did he express regret or change his mind about Trump? Not quite. The Virginia man still supports the former president and simply hopes that Trump will show compassion and help secure his wife’s release from ICE detention.
As of now, Yenifer is being held in a facility in South Texas. Her state charges were dismissed, but she remains in detention and has been denied bond. In a surprising turn, she has asked to be deported back to Colombia with her daughter. Prine, trying to help, offered to post a fifty-thousand-dollar cash bond and personally escort her home. Unfortunately, ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have not responded with any leniency, and she continues to be held.
Prine says life without her has been overwhelming. He depended on Yenifer to help manage the household and care for their two daughters: her child, Ana Maria, and his own teenage daughter, Dakota. Both girls are struggling emotionally. Prine is trying to keep everything together, but he admits he is barely hanging on.
Although Prine and Yenifer’s situation is undeniably concerning, it hasn’t exactly earned them much sympathy online. One user mocked the veteran, writing, “Hahaha, he got scammed by the Taco man.” Others criticized Prine for continuing to support Trump even after his wife was unjustly detained by ICE. Another user commented, “There seems to be a large correlation between brain injuries and Trump support.”
