Trump Tells Florida Investment Summit He Prefers Hanging Out With ‘Losers’ Because It Makes Him Feel Better

Florida got a very honest speech

President Trump made a surprisingly blunt comment during his keynote at the Future Investment Initiative Priority Summit in Miami Beach, Florida. Facing a packed room of global investors, top business figures, and policy makers, Trump admitted he likes having less successful people around him because it makes him feel better about himself. The room cracked up, but after a user posted the video on X, it exploded online, racking up millions of views and sparking debate almost instantly.

Trump: I hang out with losers because it makes be feel better. I hate guys that are very, very successful and you have to listen to their success stories. I like people that like to listen to my success. pic.twitter.com/OYNXspphxo

This summit, backed by Saudi Arabia, is an annual meeting point for big players in finance and politics. Trump has now headlined it in Miami, Florida, two years in a row.

The moment that set social media on fire came during a Q&A. Someone asked what leadership quality the world needs right now. Trump started talking about winning, but then veered off-script. “I always like to hang around with losers, actually, because it makes me feel better,” he said, as the crowd erupts in laughter.

“I hate guys that are very, very successful, and you have to listen to their success stories. I like people that like to listen to my success.” The crowd laughed even louder when he tried to soften it: “I’m only kidding, I wanna say that—eh, sort of.”

His comment stood out, partly because he has spent decades pushing the idea that he only surrounds himself with “winners”, and here he was, telling industry giants the opposite.

Internet Reacts to Trump’s Comments at Florida’s Investment Summit

Reactions online were swift and largely critical, though some found humor in the admission. Many drew an immediate connection to his administration’s personnel choices, with one commenter writing, “An explanation of his cabinet picks.”

Others pointed to what they saw as a revealing contradiction in the statement, with one writing, “Real leaders build teams of strong people — weak ones build audiences.”

Some expressed disbelief at the setting in which the comments were made, with one writing, “I really don’t know what’s more horrifying — what he says or the cheering audience.” One commenter took a more supportive view, writing, “Man always saying his mind and doesn’t care what haters say about him.”

The most widely shared reaction, however, captured the general tone of the response: “You can’t make this up.”

Trump’s speech that day covered a lot of ground, including updates on Iran, which he said was heading in a good direction. But his offhand remarks about “losers” stuck out, not just for the joke, but because of the setting and the audience.

Over the years, Miami’s FII summit has seen some headline-making moments. But a president telling a room full of the world’s top investors that he likes hanging out with less successful people is the kind of comment people will remember for a long time.
