It was just last week that DONTNOD finished their latest narrative title Tell Me Why. I got the chance to review all three episodes and I have to say, you should check it out if you’re a narrative fan. The emotional topics explored throughout the game, combined with deep and well-written characters, make for a wonderful experience. That aside though, the team isn’t wasting any time when it comes to releasing their next narrative choice game. Twin Mirror, the team’s next big adventure, releases on December 1 for PC (Epic Games Store), PS4, and Xbox One. It’s also now available to pre-order on all platforms. To go with the announcement, the team showed off a release date trailer that’s both beautiful and intense.
Twin Mirror follows the story of Sam Higgs, an investigative journalist with some special analytical skills. Namely, he’s created a Mind Palace inside his mind. This Mind Palace functions as his way of getting answers, and a way to get an idea of his personality. This ability plays a central role in not only his everyday life but also his quest for the truth. As Sam, you’ll examine areas throughout the world to piece together clues as to what happened. From there, you enter the Mind Palace and assemble these clues to interpret what happened. These decisions promise to serve an essential piece in determining Sam’s future actions, and the actions of those around him.
Through the dramatic events of Twin Mirror, Sam is progressively losing control of this Mind Palace. As he learns more about himself, this Mind Palace proves to be unable to help him with his fears and social interactions. That’s where the Double comes into play. This Double is only be seen by Sam but can help him with his journey. Will Sam be able to work with this Double and the Mind Palace, or will the events prove too difficult?
That’s for you to find out when Twin Mirror releases later this year. For now, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this concept. Do you think Twin Mirror will reach the heights of DONTNOD’s other adventures? Any other narrative games that stand out to you?
