Of the Big Three, Bleach has arguably done the worst in gaming. While One Piece and Naruto have both delivered some excellent games, the Soul Society’s offerings have been mediocre. Yet Roblox offers a treasure trove of content involving Ichigo and his pals. Project Mugetsu and others have fought to distinguish themselves, but the two names on every player’s lips are Type Soul and Peroxide. Though some hailed it as the Type Soul-killer, Peroxide‘s problems have prevented it from becoming the reigning champ. With some serious pros and cons to consider, which take on Tite Kubo’s universe is the best?
Progression in Type Soul vs. Peroxide
As action RPGs, Type Soul and Peroxide both make character progression a central part of gameplay. Though they’ve avoided the pay-to-win and pay-to-progress issues that have plagued some Roblox games, both wrestle with too much grind. Despite updates aimed at grind reduction, tortoises can lap you on the road to Bankai, Voltstanding, and True Resurrection in Type Soul. To be fair, Peroxide isn’t much better. Where Peroxide has the edge is with how it incorporates Bleach‘s lore into character progression.
In Type Soul, for example, you need to complete a certain number of raids to earn your Bankai. There’s a gamified logic to that, but it falls apart in the context of actual lore. Peroxide does a better job of linking your hard work to the story through the Potential mechanic. Yet Peroxide also requires you to build your stats through insufferable minigames. Smacking a training dummy is fun for the first 30 seconds. After that, not so much. Overall, Type Soul and Peroxide tie in terms of character progression, as their pros and cons more or less cancel each other out.
The Combat Difference
Peroxide‘s biggest problem has always been its combat. You can have the best Kendo build in the world, but if combat isn’t fun, you have no reason to fight. Though Peroxide has improved in some ways and is no longer the disaster it was at launch, it’s still poor competition. The lack of moveset diversity and skill expression simply make fights in Peroxide less fun. Peroxide‘s combat is in a much better place than it once was, but Type Soul‘s is still better, and not just because of how differently the two games handle stuns.
Although it’s a matter of taste, I give the edge to Type Soul. My dream Bleach Roblox game would borrow elements from both TS and Peroxide, but I’ll settle for the game that’s closest right now. Type Soul offers a better PvE experience and more enjoyable builds, and that’s reason enough to grit your teeth through the gristle. That said, they both provide unique takes on Tite Kubo’s manga, and there’s no reason you can’t play both. Like playing a Soul Reaper and an Arrancar, you’ll get the best of both worlds—except without some nosy Quincy trying to kill you.
Roblox is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Mobile.
