If you’re familiar with my work, you’d know I’ve recently grown to love fighting games. Ever since my venture into Free Play Arcade, I haven’t been able to get enough of them. I wanted a piece of that wonderful pie, so I picked up every fighting game in the book. That’s when Smash Ultimate came out, and I’ve been extremely hooked since. If you haven’t picked up Smash Ultimate, you really need to. Then something occurred to me that really sparked my imagination.
Recently I’ve noticed that there aren’t many Smash Ultimate tournaments online. Granted, this is due to the online service not being very good in the past. Now that Nintendo has fixed those issues, it is nearly flawless during 1v1 fights. That gave us the idea for our new league, the EvatG Network. Let’s get into the details.
This is the EvatG Network, where we will be showcasing the best gaming has to offer. We’ve been wanting to create a league for a while, so this is very exciting news to be sharing. The first game we will be focusing on is Smash Ultimate! The first season will start on January 1st, 2019. This will be a six week season, with every match taking place on Tuesday Nights starting at 6 PM. These matches will be the standard best of three fights. All games will be streamed and commented over on Twitch here, bringing our little community to the forefront. As of now, we have 5 out of the 16 required.
We will be looking for additional streamers and shout-casters, so comment or email me if you’re interested in working as staff! The top players will be put into the semi-finals near the end of the six weeks, which will go into our finals. The final match will be the best of five, in which the winner will win our grand prize of $300. Afterward, we will hail our new Smash Ultimate champ for the network!
This will be an amateur level tournament, meaning we will be only accepting people who haven’t won any big tournaments. I know this is a vague requirement, but we feel like it will open the tournament up to most people wanting to try tournament settings out. This tournament will be free to enter with no buy-in. Our first season is a test to see how much people would enjoy watching Smash Ultimate and playing in online tournaments for us.
If this tournament works out the way we are planning, we are in the works to do buy-in tournaments for professional players. An entirely separate league for those who want to fight for the big prize is certainly something we want to do. The prize could potentially be $1,000.
