Marvel is giving readers a peek at Peach Momoko’s Ultimate X-Men series with the reveal of a new variant cover. The cover, by Mark Brooks, shows off two new mutants that are part of the next generation of X-Men. Fans get a good look at new mutants Armor and Maystorm before the series launches in March. The new series is a product of Jonathan Hickman’s Ultimate Universe that launched last year. Hickman’s Universe laid the groundwork for new Ultimate series, like this one.
Ultimate X-Men #1
Peach Momoko’s Ultimate X-Men takes place in the Universe established in Ultimate Invasion. Ultimate Invasion is a four-issue series from visionary creator Jonathan Hickman. It introduced a new Earth known as Earth-6160. This new series from Momoko follows Hisako Ichiki, a teenage girl living in Japan. While Ichiki aims to live a normal life, urban legends are suddenly spawning to life. This forces a new team of Ultimate X-Men, including Ichiki’s Armor, to come to the rescue.
Joining Armor is the new mutant Maystorm. This Storm-inspired mutant previously appeared as part of Marvel’s New Champions initiative. However, Momoko decided to flesh out the character and situate them within this new Ultimate X-Men team. She appears to be a protégé of the omega-level X-Man Storm. While Armor and Maystorm are known members of this new team, the rest are a mystery. Perhaps more protégés will pop up on this team or something ne completely.
A New Marvel Universe
Ultimate X-Men is part of the newly launched Ultimate Universe. This new Marvel Universe introduces a new pantheon of heroes. Titles under this series include Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Black Panther. These new titles introduce iconic Marvel heroes with certain twists to their origins. For example, the Ultimate version of Black Panther finds an isolated Wakanda not involved with outside politics. When Moon Knight aims to take control of Africa, Wakanda and its Black Panther must step in.
Ultimate X-Men #1 is on sale 03/06.
