Unbothered Baltimore Nurse Scolded by Bystanders for Leaving Newborn in Her Car for 30 Minutes, ‘Yeah, I’m So Sorry’

Hopefully doesn’t happen again

Working in healthcare can often get hectic and disorienting, especially for nurses. Still, despite her profession, what appeared to be a nurse in Baltimore, Maryland, got a rather impassioned tongue-lashing from angry bystanders; they also called the authorities on her and her car after they discovered that she had left a newborn baby inside the vehicle for 30 minutes, probably more.

The incident took place early in December in a parking lot in Baltimore, Maryland. One of the witnesses and concerned citizens took a video of the supposed nurse in the process of getting scolded and cussed by an older woman, and also being advised by an officer not to leave her child in her car anymore for prolonged periods.

In the video, you can hear the older woman screaming, “You go buy a [expletive] grape juice! You left your child for 20 to 30 minutes– a newborn! Unlocked car! Running! Grow the [expletive] up!” The officer had to step in to placate the angry woman while also saying, “If you go inside, bring the baby inside,” to the young nurse.

The nurse had to defend herself, stating that, “Yeah I’m sorry, I didn’t thought of it like that. I left it on because she was sleeping, I was just getting the paper.” The angry older woman, however, reminded her again not to leave the child, to which the nurse replied, “Yeah, I’m so sorry, have a great one though. Thank you!” To many viewers, however, the way the supposed nurse replied seemed rather nonchalant or veiled annoyance.

People online are worried about the infant

It’s not clear whether the supposed nurse was apprehended or reported to the proper authorities, such as Child Protection Services (CPS), but the lack of action from the officer present at the scene has led some people to believe that he was just a security officer in one of the establishments in the area. “Well apparently the cops were not needed that lady handled it by herself😂😂,” jokes one commenter.

Similar incidents have happened where actual police officers responding to the scene immediately reported the neglect to CPS. Regardless, people online worry for the well-being of the newborn, especially after they judged the nurse based on how she responded, “Spoken with the same energy you’d use to apologize for accidentally bumping into someone.”

“She sees nothing wrong and learned nothing. Good luck, kid,” according to one worried Reddit user. Others, however, believe that the healthcare worker might have been dazed or exhausted from her work, which was why she made a poor judgment, “Not making any excuses but she’s a new mother AND a nurse? She’s probably exhausted. I feel like she’s barely registering the lady rightfully cussing her out,“ though another claims, “And being a nurse or even a doctor does not mean you can’t be negligent or a complete idiot about many things.
