When you spend a good bit of money on something, you expect quality, especially from recognizable brands. It should tell you what you’re buying has been properly vetted and the real deal. Unfortunately, a woman in Louisiana believes she was sold a counterfeit pair of Timberland boots from a store at Oakwood Center Shopping Mall. Rather than go through the proper channels to have it solved, she confronts the store owner herself.
Outside Hana’s Shoe Store, TikToker Mook handles a pair of Timberlands she alleges are completely fake. She shows to the camera how the leather along the mouth of the boot is starting to peel. According to Mook, “My daughter only had them for a short time.” Later on in the video, Mook reveals that ‘short time’ was about two hours.
Determined and on a mission, Mook heads into the store and confronts the owner. He immediately says those aren’t the “same ones” he sold her. She disagrees and makes a show of going to the display and grabbing a different pair of Timberlands. When the owner of the store says he isn’t refunding her for the shoes, they start arguing back and forth. She proclaims, “I’m gonna call the feds on you! I might call ICE on you.” That gets the owner fired up and he calls her a “racist.”
The owner plays along and says “alright” and tells her to go right ahead and make the call. At the same time, he stands firm on the fact he isn’t refunding her for the shoes and continues denying those weren’t the same pair. Mook accuses him of selling her “plastic” boots, but the store owner accuses her of switching the boots with a cheaper pair.
Once again, Mook heads over to the display and claims all the shoes are fakes. This gets a customer service rep taking her to the back of the store to prove they are in fact real. They try showing her a pair of Jordans, but she yells at him and says, “No I wanna see the Timberlands.”
In the end, the heated customer doesn’t get the results she wanted. The customer service rep tells her he isn’t sure what happened to her shoes or what she did to them. She tries to say, “Leather does not peel” and continues to assert that Hana’s shoes are counterfeit and their shop is a scam. Mook threatens again that she’ll be making some calls before leaving.
The comment section of Mook’s TikTok video was somewhat split. Some people offered solutions, while others were none to happy with how she threatened the store owner with ICE.
“Yeah but the ICE comment was lowwwwww” said one commenter. Others in the same thread tried to justify Mook’s threat by arguing it was because of “ripping off” people.
One commenter suggested the correct course of action of reporting the store to the “BBB” (Better Business Bureau) for an investigation.
Another commenter claimed the same store did that to her, “She not the only one. They did it to me too. Same store. Same shoe.” In a follow-up message, the same woman alleged the store “called security” and a friend had to make the return for her.
How Mook handled the situation was completely uncalled for. With ICE tearing families apart, it’s pretty disgusting someone would stoop so low over a pair of boots. Whether they’re counterfeit or not is moot at that point.
