I absolutely love my pets, and can’t imagine any harm ever coming their way for any reason, let alone because of something I caused. Unfortunately, there are other people in the world who couldn’t care less about their pets outside of the aesthetic of owning them. That was the reality for a New Jersey pet rescuer who had a snake that was adopted out and returned to them.
While it’s great that the snake was returned to a home that will take care of it and meet its needs, it didn’t come back in the greatest condition. Now, the pet rescuer is sharing her story and how not all adoptions go perfectly, with some animals ending back up right where they started.
The above video was posted to the TikTok account @smallnfurryrescue, which belongs to Small N Furry Rescue, an exotic companion animal rescue in New Jersey. The rescue is home to many different animals, like hedgehogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, and more, that you wouldn’t typically find in your average animal adoption center.
Small N Furry Rescue’s owner, a woman named Madeline, took to TikTok to share a story that had just happened to her concerning a snake she had adopted out. Shortly after having adopted the snake, named Chloe, to a person who claimed to have experience with the animals, Madeline decided to shop on Craigslist to see if there were any animals she would be able to help.
Unfortunately, during her search, she discovered a picture of Chloe on a sale listing. Madeline decided to reach out to the person who adopted Chloe from her to ask what had happened, but wasn’t getting any responses. She then decided to call the number on the listing, where she finally got an answer back.
New Jersey Pet Rescuer Saves Snake From Person Who Adopted Snake From Her
The person who adopted the snake must not have realized that in the contract he had signed in order to get Chloe, it stated that she could not be listed for sale, be used for breeding, or be traded. As a result, Chloe was surrendered once again to Small N Furry Rescue, but was brought back in worse condition than she left in.
Not only were Chloe’s scales a little strange, but she was infested with mites that are known within the veterinary industry as being incredibly challenging to deal with. The replies were filled with snake owners who gave their thanks for saving Chloe immediately after discovering something was wrong, with one person even saying, “That snake was so happy to smell you again.”
Other people also praised her for being a positive light in the animal adoption system, which is known to be rough at times, with another person saying, “The system didn’t fail! You discovered they were in breach and you enforced your contract! You made the system work!” I’m glad the snake is now getting the proper treatment and care it needs, though the situation should never have happened in the first place.
