Going to an art show gives you the expectation you will encounter some unexpected things. That’s the fun of exploring what another person’s mind creates! For one woman, she was in for one of the biggest surprises of her life when she went to her father’s art show in Utah. Nothing could prepare her for what he—and her boyfriend—had in store for her when they collaborated on a special piece.
Utah-based artist Jake Songer decided to host a mock art show. He had a special unveiling of an unknown piece he wanted his daughter, Gracie, to see. In a video that went viral on TikTok (posted by @graciesonger), you can see Jake standing next to his piece of art with a sheet hung on top of it. When he unveils the piece, it’s an oil painting with flowers and, in the middle, says, “Marry Me?”
Gracie was absolutely shocked as her boyfriend, Matthew, laughed in joy. Gracie then showed various videos taken from family members’ POVs, showing her excitement over the painting. She was clearly in disbelief her boyfriend and father would go to these lengths to give her the most memorable proposal.
It was so powerful, everyone had been left in tears. She then discovered that her father set up the art show just for her with some help from her family. And it even took place in a real art studio!
Gracie’s father said that it took him about a week to complete the portrait. He was also surprised that Gracie wanted to keep the portrait, but who wouldn’t? One person even commented on her video in agreement, “Stop, imagine that hung up in your home.” Another commented, “He gave his best art piece away that day,” which gave me all the feels.
This Utah family sticking together to give a daughter, girlfriend, and more one of the best days ever shows how strong a family unit can be. Art is also a huge part of the Songer family, who apparently has three generations of professional artists within it, other than Jake. To make the story even better, it was revealed Matthew proposed with a ring. That’s to be expected, but it just so happens the design of the ring was done by Gracie. It couldn’t be more gorgeous!
