The location of your castle in V Rising (1.0 release) will determine just how well you can enjoy the game. Half the gameplay consists of crafting, building, kidnapping, and organ harvesting. And you need a good base location to hide all your “illegal” vampire activities as well as a nice spot for convenient fast travel. Thus, we arrive at the discussion of V Rising 1.0’s best base locations on this side of Vardoran.
Early Game Best Base Locations in V Rising 1.0
It goes without saying that you shouldn’t venture far into higher-level areas just to secure what you think is a great investment for later. Unless you have Bat Form unlocked or Teleport-Bound items disabled, you’re going to have a hard time accessing your base if you set it up in a higher-level area.

V Rising 1.0: How To Fast TravelSo in the spirit of starting small, the locations above are what I consider to be the most ideal areas for low-level vampires (pre-Iron tools). Here are the explanations for each numbered or marked location on the map image above.
- North of the Bear Cave (East) in Farbane Woods is just perfect. It’s near a boss, it’s near a Waygate (for the early game), and it’s also near a cave exit, allowing you to raid Silverlight Hills in the late game and disappear. The only problem is that lots of players can see it in PvP since it’s near a boss location.
- Near the Bandit Copper Mine (center) of Farbane Woods is also a great spot, given that it’s near a newly-placed cave exit. It’s also near a merchant and a Waygate. The only problem is it’s a bit small.
- 3rd area southwest of Farbane Woods is also near a cave exit (with the cave entrance located in the Cursed Forest). It’s thus a good backup in case you get lost in the Cursed Forest later on. It’s also safe enough if you want to avoid PvP, and the area is large. You just need Castle Waygate for it.
- The 4th area near the Fishing Lake used to be a prime spot for building huge castles. But the devs have since placed a pond (and a boss) inside it in the V Rising 1.0 release. Nevertheless, it’s still a lovely area for a prison castle since there’s a nice fishing spot nearby. It’s also on the border, which is convenient.
Mid-Game Best Base Locations in V Rising 1.0
Mid-game or once you get to Iron tools is when the game starts getting chaotic and gives you more freedom in your choices. You’ll also want the best base locations in V Rising 1.0 that grant you access to areas where you can’t just fast-travel into.
To that end, here are the explanations for each numbered location on the map image.
- The first marked location is more of a general suggestion. You want to be somewhere in the area around the Dunley Farmer’s Market in Dunley Farmlands. Silver Coins are a pain to carry (literally), so minimizing travel time to the merchants is a welcome change. Moreover, it’s near the Haunted Iron Mine and a cave entrance. I imagine this area will be highly contested, however. Not great for PvP.
- The 2nd area is an isolated spot northeast of Dunley Farmlands that’s not exactly convenient but it’s close to the Cursed Forest and the Ruins of Mortium. Moreover, the build area is huge.
- If you’re into farming horses or want a nearby location of water, then the third area south of the Horse Track in Dunley Farmlands is an ideal spot. It’s near a horse track and you can also defend this area easily.
- The 4th spot east of Dunley Farmlands is just something that gets you closer to the Ruins of Mortium for easy Ancestral weapon farming.
Late-Game Best Castle Locations in V Rising
Late game (Ancestral weapons phase) is not as important as you think, especially once you slay Styx and get the Bat Form. However, the same Silver Coin logic applies here to the Goldsun Coins. You want to be close to the merchant.

How To Get Iron in V RisingAs for the other locations, here are the explanations:
- The 1st spot south of Silverlight Hills makes the Goldsun Coin merchants accessible. You want them nearby to minimize your travel time with the coins.
- East of the Cursed Forest is quite the ordeal to navigate so a base near a Waygate and a cave entrance should make it tolerable.
- The 3rd spot east of Dracula’s Demise is nice for PvP, easy to defend, and it’s also near Styx if you’re in need of some easy Bat Hide or Blood Crystal.
- As for the 4th location north of Gloomrot North, trust me, you’re going to want to build a base here. The hardest or 2nd hardest boss in V Rising this location.
There you have it, the best base locations in V Rising 1.0 in which to be a reclusive vampire. You can also still try out other areas since the most popular or practical castle locations tend to be a hotspot for PvP. Even vampires have trouble with the housing market.
V Rising 1.0 is available on PC and PlayStation platforms.
