Here we go once again…Comicbook is reporting today that the long-awaited, and I mean long-awaited, Half-Life 3 might actually be in development at Valve Corporation. These Valve rumors come from a source that has been deemed a well-regarded Valve insider by the name of Tyler McVicker who was quoted as saying, “There is a very minor group working on Half-Life 3, at the time of this recording.” Possibly another example of the boy who cried Gordon Freeman.
15+ Years in the Making
As I am sure most of you all know, these types of rumors have come and gone for the better part of the last decade and a half with the original Half-Life being released back in 1998 and the most recent entry, Half-Life 2, released in 2004. Although most of the Valve team is focused on Valve’s own handheld, Nintendo Switch-like system, the Steam Deck, it seems that some of their resources are being focused on Half-Life 3.
Comicbook is also reporting that there have been multiple stops and starts on the development of the highly anticipated sequel throughout the years, and numerous articles claiming that the game is moving forwards, but are also just as many articles where Valve insiders say things like, “…there is no such thing as Half-Life 3 nor one under development…”
It is understandable for someone familiar with Valve, or someone working for Valve to want to keep a tight lid on rumors considering how much frenzy surrounds Half-Life 3. At some point, we have to ask ourselves; is better to let sleeping dogs lie, or is it better to continue the speculation to the point that it becomes true.
If the Chicago Cubs can win the World Series and if the prodigal son, CM Punk, can return to professional wrestling, why can’t we have a Half-Life 3? It’s 2021 and I say that anything is possible. How do you feel about this Valve rumor? Will you hold your breath for Half-Life 3? Let me know down below!
