According to an exclusive report from Deadline, actress Vanessa Kirby is set to star in a major role in Ridley Scott’s next film, Kitbag. Kirby will play the starring role of Empress Josephine alongside Joaquin Phoenix, who will portray the famous French military leader, Napoleon Bonaparte. Kirby is replacing Jodie Comer, who was originally cast as Josephine but stepped down from the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Kitbag is an exploration of the origins and rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. However, the film will reportedly explore this well-known story through the lens of Josephine, Napoleon’s wife, and one true love. Ridley Scott will direct the movie with a script written by his collaborator from All the Money in the World, David Scarpa. Scott is also serving as a producer on the project alongside Kevin Walsh. Apple Studios will produce and provide financing for Kitbag.
Vanessa Kirby is a bright and rising star in the movie industry. She recently earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Pieces of a Woman where she played a mother who lost her newborn shortly after its birth. Kirby has also earned nominations for other awards, ranging from the Golden Globes to the Critics’ Choice Awards. However, Kirby was able to receive award-winning status with a BAFTA award.
Aside from Pieces of a Woman, Vanessa Kirby is best known for her portrayal of Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of The Crown. However, Kirby has also appeared in a couple of action films in recent years, including Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw and Mission Impossible: Fallout. Kirby will even reappear in the next two Mission Impossible films, reprising her role as the White Widow.
