A viral video out of Massachusetts has set social media ablaze after it appeared to show a police officer barely able to stand during a traffic stop. The clip, recorded by the driver who was pulled over, shows the officer staggering and clutching his holstered firearm for balance.
At first, it looks like a standard sobriety check. But the situation quickly flips when the driver realizes one of the officers is the one who seems intoxicated. In disbelief, he demands a supervisor, taunting the officer for being “drunk on the job” and warning he’ll lose his badge. Other officers present shut down the request, instead insisting their colleague had just come off a double shift and was suffering from a medical condition.
Online, few were convinced. As one Reddit user joked: “I’ve been pretty wasted in my life but not that wasted. And I wasn’t wearing a police uniform.” Another piled on with, “Or had your hand planted on a gun like it was the only thing keeping you from falling over.”
The incident sparked immediate speculation: was this a case of a cop working himself past exhaustion, a medical emergency, or something more troubling like substance abuse?
The Lynn Police Department acknowledged the footage on its official Facebook page after it began spreading across Reddit, TikTok, and X. In a later statement, officials confirmed that the officer had been placed on administrative leave after becoming “suddenly incapacitated” while responding to a call.

Police say they reviewed body-worn camera footage and consulted medical professionals before concluding the officer had suffered a “medical-related episode.” They emphasized that while the department does not normally comment on ongoing investigations, they felt compelled to address the situation given the level of public concern.
Still, questions remain. The department has not released the bodycam footage, nor has it provided details about when or where the incident took place. The exact nature of the “episode” is also unclear, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Despite the official line, skepticism lingers online. Many commenters suggested the officer’s colleagues seemed too casual for a genuine medical emergency. As one Redditor observed: “If he was having a medical episode, his buddies wouldn’t have been covering for him. The fact that his behavior was not alarming to them is the most telling thing.”
Others pointed to the explanation of back pain and long shifts as suspiciously flimsy. “I have a bad back and have worked a double,” one commenter wrote. “Can I get some Jack Daniel’s too?”
The Lynn Police say this was a medical issue, but the internet isn’t buying it. Until more details or footage are released, the viral clip is going to speak louder than the official statement… and right now, it doesn’t look good.
