In the last decade, indie games have become the core of creativity in the video game industry. Whether it is the goofy Untitled Goose Game or the addictive Vampire Survivors, the beautiful Tunic made by one person, or the dark narrative masterclass of Inside, all these games give the industry and players something new and unique that major studios wouldn’t dare to risk money on. Viewfinder is one of these titles made by Sad Owl Studios, and it is a brain-busting puzzle game that will blow your mind with its creativity.
Viewfinder Is a Game With Puzzles of a Different Perspective
A viewfinder is that little window on cameras that photographers look through to compose and focus on their subject. In taking a good picture, it is important to align the subject with its surroundings. This is the core mechanic of Viewfinder’s gameplay. You have to use your camera to capture different pictures, align them with the real world, and mix them together to solve the puzzles.
The gameplay of Viewfinder is simple, but the idea is so brilliant that each puzzle will blow your mind. In order to solve a puzzle in the game, you have to either find a picture or take a picture yourself with the camera. Then, you use that picture to dissolve it into the world and create solutions to pass obstacles. Each puzzle will require you to rotate the pictures, align them perfectly, search to find the right items or duplicate them to solve them.
Even though it may sound like the game gets repetitive, believe me, repetitiveness is the last thing you should worry about if you are hesitant to play Viewfinder. Not only do the puzzles get trickier and evolve as you go, but the environment and even the color palette of the game change as you progress.
There is also a story in the background that you can follow by listening to different audio tapes. The story is well written and hidden underneath the façade of the game because it is talking about a serious issue that everyone around the globe is suffering from. I won’t point out what it is for the sake of not spoiling it, as Viewfinder is a game that should be experienced first-hand.

In summary, Viewfinder is a brilliant game that not only fans of puzzle games shouldn’t miss, but every single person should try out. Even people who don’t usually play video games will appreciate the uniqueness and creativity of this game, as well as the message it is trying to give to anyone who picks it up.
Viewfinder is available for PC and PlayStation 5.
