Independent narrative and game designer Jelle Van Doorne is ready to bring his musical platformer to the forefront on Steam. Viola: The Heroine’s Melody has been in Early Access for some time, but the title is releasing later this month.
Execute Harmonious Combos in Viola: The Heroine’s Melody
In this unique blend of retro and modern JRPGs, Viola: The Heroine’s Melody follows the journey of a lost musician. After failing her violin practice for the 100th time, Viola’s instrument sucks her into a fantasy world. As she ventures to find her way back home, she’ll encounter a colorful cast of characters who have instruments of their own. Composed with gorgeous pixel art, this solo title is a designer’s digital effort to tell a story about learning to love yourself.
Viola‘s gameplay comprises familiar turn-based action mechanics with a huge dash of side-scrolling thrills. Also, music plays a vital part in this indie title. Our heroine will learn more songs along the journey, and her new friends are there to unlock more than what she could do on her own. If you’ve ever played Zelda before, the musical features will feel wholly habitual.
Many people are unable to see themselves in the things they watch, read or play. Viola is filled with characters of all kinds: different colors, different loves, different ideals. If you’ve ever felt out of place, and like you couldn’t connect with the characters you’ve seen before, Viola is for you.” – Viola‘s Steam Page
The release trailer shows off a good dose of the mechanics and story. Backed up with that sweet-sounding JRPG soundtrack, Viola and her adventurous entourage of friends battle strange fiends, perform wall-jumps, and engage in laughs and tunes. Viola: The Heroine’s Melody (version 1.0) is arriving this February 17 for $14.99 on PC via Steam. If you would like to see us review this title, let us know by leaving a comment down below!
