Everybody is always looking for that perfect experience as they welcome their baby into the world. Sometimes, no matter how many birth plans a person makes as they prepare for the big day, things don’t go exactly as planned. This was what happened in Virginia, to Lindsey Hamden and her husband, when Lindsey suddenly felt like she was going to have to push— and they were still on their way to the hospital. Luckily, help came to the rescue!

Once Lindsey realized her water broke, she and her husband loaded up into their vehicle and headed for the Virginia hospital. However, when they were stopped at a stoplight, Lindsey felt like it was time to push. Her husband quickly pulled into a CVS parking lot, calling 911 so that they could get immediate help. This baby wasn’t going to wait for anyone or anything!

The first responder was Lieutenant Hayes, who had been driving in the area and heard the call, so he quickly responded to the parking lot. As he was pulling up to the car, Lindsey was already giving birth to her daughter, Olivia.

Hayes stayed calm and reassured the family that help was on the way as he assisted them through the birth. After Olivia was born and the family retreated to the hospital, Hayes even drove their car to the hospital and cleaned it for them so that the family wouldn’t have to worry about doing so. He went to huge extents just to give them the comfort they needed during this daunting time, going above and beyond in his line of duty.

Lindsey was thankful for Hayes’s help, stating, “It really did feel like a team effort. Lt. Hayes arrived just in time to help with the delivery.” She also said of her husband and his calm demeanor, “My husband was amazing through the whole thing. He was incredibly comforting and kept telling me, ‘It’s okay, it’s okay.’ His biggest concern was making sure my daughter and I were both okay.”

In the aftermath of the successful and happy birth of her new daughter, Lindsey felt extremely thankful for what everybody did and how they came together for her. Lindsey and her family dropped off a treat for Lt. Hayes at the local Virginia fire station and shared her experience in a TikTok video, stating how amazing Hayes and the other first responders were throughout the entire birth.

Many people shared their heartfelt stories about how they, too, received help when they were unable to make it to the hospital in time and delivered their babies where they were at the time. The popular proverb “It takes a village to raise a child” is so true. But what also matters is seeing a community come together to help a mother bring her child into this world in her time of need, and Lindsey received just that.
