An initially peaceful and normal book signing event for a black author in the Alexandria Library in Virginia suddenly turned violent after a MAGA supporter (in full attire) crashed the event. It’s not clear what the MAGA supporter wanted, but the book signing event participants naturally didn’t want him there and asked him to leave, leading to an altercation.
The event was apparently held for Dr. La’Tonya Rease Miles and her new book, “Smart Girl,” which took place on May 21. Dr. Miles was merely supposed to sign books and conduct a giveaway with a bit of a speech, only for the whole event to be disturbed by a seemingly random MAGA supporter.
The entirety of the incident wasn’t exactly recorded, but a clip uploaded on a subreddit shows the MAGA supporter wearing a red MAGA shirt with a cap sitting down in the book signing event and arguing with the participants. In the clip, they’re asking him to leave, which prompted a heated response from the MAGA supporter:
“I don’t need to do anything. Stop telling me– this is not Nazi Germany. I don’t need to do anything. Stop telling me what to do,” screams the MAGA supporter.
The participants of the book signing event quickly clapped back at the MAGA supporter, saying that he is “Nazi Germany”. Afterward, the MAGA supporter stood up and started verbally assaulting everyone by calling them expletives. One man had had enough and started throwing punches at the MAGA supporter, prompting others to escort the old man out of the premises.
Unfortunately, the man who threw the punch at the MAGA supporter appears to have missed his first swing and hit someone else, who then collapsed on the floor. Afterward, it’s not clear what happened to the casualty and the MAGA supporter. Regardless, the incident wouldn’t have taken place if the MAGA supporter hadn’t crashed the book signing.
People Pointed Out the Irony of the Situation
Some people online were quick to call out the MAGA supporter for his choice of words and logic, implying that he was under oppression for being asked to leave, even calling the book even participants as Nazis. The irony is that the very politicians that the MAGA supporter stemmed from imposed oppressive policies akin to Nazi Germany’s practices.
So while the MAGA supporter didn’t exactly hurt anyone physically (at least based on the short clip), his actions have been criticized as malicious or with the intent to cause harm to a group of people who only want to read books.
