Virginia McDonald’s Only Allows Customers In After They Ring a Doorbell: ‘I’m All For It’

It’s a good strategy.

When you are looking for a fast meal at McDonald’s, you don’t think you will face any restrictions to get in. After all, it’s an establishment that welcomes everyone, including families. This, however, is not the case at a Virginia McDonald’s that has just introduced a new rule. If customers want to dine inside the restaurant, they have to ring a doorbell first. The new policy attracted people’s attention, especially when they found out the reason behind it. Now, people are actually supporting what the Virginia McDonald’s is doing.

Want a Happy Meal? Ring the doorbell: Fairfax Co. McDonald's now has 21+ policy for indoor dining

After a lot of accidents with youth who would come in and disturb the place and customers, the Virginia McDonald’s decided that now anyone who wants to eat inside has to ring a doorbell. They also have to be at least 21 years old. This branch is near a high school. This led to a lot of problems as students would be seen standing on tables and fighting. According to News4, the Virginia McDonald’s has a sign that states, “Due to repeated incidents of student violence, the location is temporarily closed for dine-in service to anyone under 21 years of age.”

Now, only those who are at least 21 years old will be allowed inside. They might even be asked to see an ID to confirm their age. After they ring the doorbell, a team member will come and let them inside. McDonald’s has already shared a statement with News4. “We’ve enhanced our Franconia Road McDonald’s security measures in an effort to promote a safe environment for our customers and staff. This policy was developed in partnership with local school officials with oversight from local law enforcement. This serves as a temporary fix as we work towards a long-term solution for all,” they said.

People Reacting to the Virginia McDonald’s New Policy

Most people agreed with the Virginia McDonald’s new policy. They, too, have been finding it difficult to enjoy their food amid the chaos. One parent wrote:

“Honestly, I’m all for it. When I go on break at work and try to just grab a quick McChicken, it seems like all the 14 year old kids are screaming slurs on video chat at the top of their lungs, throwing food and just doing the dumbest shit. And they travel in packs here. Nobody can say anything because the pack will rampage and start throwing shit or smearing food deliberately everywhere. F**k them kids and I’m a parent.”

Another person shared how a similar thing used to happen when they were younger. They said:

“Not much else a business can do. Why let people into your business who can’t be held accountable for anything. When I was in middle school, the corner store near my bus stop only allowed 1 kid in at a time. Eventually they just started closing for a couple of hours when school let out.”

Others also celebrated the decision of the Virginia McDonald’s as they wrote, “Finally! No obnoxious teens while I scarf down muh nuggies.” Another said, “Good for them.” One person, however, disagreed with this new policy. “this is just segregation but with more steps,” they wrote. To which someone responded by saying, “It’s not segregation to refuse service to people causing issues.” In all honesty, this is a good policy. If youth visiting the Virginia McDonald’s can’t behave, then they shouldn’t be allowed in. Plus, parents with kids are still allowed in, so this is what matters.
