People are struggling to maintain enough food in their households, stay warm, and even find proper shelter. So, when somebody is in need, they should be able to safely acquire the help they deserve. A Pennsylvania woman was surprised when she heard a volunteer at a food bank making judgmental comments toward a man in need. Now, she’s sharing her story on TikTok, and it makes you wonder how people can be so cruel.
Titled, ““How about don’t be a judgmental Judy at the food bank??”” on TikTok, Spirit said she made a stop at her local food bank to retrieve a box of food. While there, a volunteer approached a man who was also getting a box of food for himself. He told them he is a veteran of the U.S. military. He was then approached by another volunteer, who asked him, “Do you get veteran services?” but he did not. There were no special services to assist him.
The second volunteer then asked him if his monthly income was zero, which he said it was. She then told him, “You’re gonna have to do this every three months,” with his zero income. Spirit said the lady sounded very judgmental when she said it and it bothered her.
When you think about it, people are out here struggling just trying to survive. Not to mention other internal pressures hurting the job market, such as ICE raids. As Spirit said, people think that you don’t deserve to be fed just because you don’t have a current job. It’s a cruel way to look at things. Spirit goes on to say people need to “stop trying to shame people you know nothing about.”
“I had to stop volunteering at the food bank because the other people were judgmental. I was shocked,” one commenter admitted.
Another person stated, “These people being judgmental are no different than kicking someone who is already down,” said another.
People think it’s so easy for you to just go out there and get a job when the job market looks like it does. They think it’s so easy to afford every bill as it comes in. Until they’re faced with the same turmoil, they’d never understand.
